Full Job Description
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse-Perioperative, practicing in a variety of clinical settings, provides comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing surgical or procedural interventions. Working collaboratively with the interprofessional team, the nurse practices in the roles of scrub nurse, circulating nurse, and/or post-anesthesia nurse, ensuring safe, evidence-based care throughout the perioperative continuum and in alignment with the guidelines established by the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC)

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Days, Evenings, 07:30 to 15:48, 11:00 to 19:18 (rotating)

Qualfications
• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, (BCCNM).
• Completion of a recognized perioperative specialty program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS)

Skills and Abilities:
• Clinical proficiency in the designated clinical area(s).
• Proficiency in initiating and maintaining Intravenous Therapy (IV).
• Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
• Ability to determine and deal with emergency situations, patients, and families.
• Ability to recognize acuity changes.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families/care givers, the public, medical staff and members of the interprofessional care team using verbal, written and electronic communication means.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work.
• Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
