The Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) is a highly adaptable, team-oriented professional who supports hospital-wide patient care needs to promote safe, efficient patient throughput. Reporting directly to the House Supervisor, the Float Pool RN provides skilled nursing care across multiple departments based on census, acuity, and operational demand. This role requires a positive attitude, clinical confidence, flexibility, and a strong commitment to teamwork.

The Float Pool RN serves as a vital resource to ensure quality patient care while supporting staffing efficiency throughout the organization.

Reporting Structure
  • Reports to: House Supervisor
  • Collaborates with: Unit Managers, Charge Nurses, Interdisciplinary Care Teams

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care across assigned units based on hospital needs.
  • Support patient throughput by responding to fluctuating census and acuity levels.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and hospital protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Adapt quickly to varying workflows, patient populations, and unit expectations.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and a solutions-focused mindset in dynamic situations.

Float to the following departments as needed:
  • Medical/Surgical (Med/Surg)
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)
  • Emergency Department (ED)
  • Potential coverage for Post Partum and Outpatient Services

Required Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
  • BLS certification (required)
  • ACLS certification (required)
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of ED & Critical Care experience
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to function independently in multiple care environments.
  • Maintains high level of performance evaluations
  • Stroke, STEMI, Trauma hours per critical care level

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in ICU and/or Emergency Department.
  • Previous float pool experience.
  • Post Partum or outpatient clinical exposure.
  • Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
