Practices in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Standards (professional & practice) and code of ethics for a Registered Nurse. Practices within the scope of practice as set by the organization, as per VCH policies and guidelines/clinical practice documents and within own competence.

ABOUT SECHELT HOSPITALSechelt Hospital is an acute care, 46-bed facility located in Sechelt, British Columbia and serves over 30,000+ residents of the Lower Sunshine Coast. Sechelt Hospital provides a full range of services to the community, including Emergency care, Renal program-community dialysis units, Mental Health and Substance Use Services, surgical services, birthing for low-risk pregnancies and imaging services.
QualificationsEducation & Experience- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Completion of recognized Sexual Assault/Forensic Nurse Examiner coursework.
- Two (2) years' recent and related nursing experience in an acute or public health setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
- Ability to demonstrate therapeutic interviewing and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families/care givers, the public, medical staff and members of the interprofessional care team using verbal, written and electronic communication means.
- Demonstrated knowledge of contraceptive management and sexually transmitted infections.
- Demonstrated ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients and families/care givers, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences and patient advocacy.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a variety of professionals from the health and legal professions.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize patient care.
- Demonstrated ability to use factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence/evidence-informed practice.
- Demonstrated ability to operated related equipment including relevant computer applications.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the physical duties of the position.
