Overview
Nurse Clinician

40 hours per week. Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm.

The Infectious Disease Clinic at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is seeking a highly qualified Infectious Disease (ID) Nurse Clinician to join our dynamic team.

Nurse clinicians are experts in HIV care and can assist in managing acute and long-term medical issues collaborating with medical and behavioral health care providers. They are the primary access point of care for patients with HIV. They can evaluate problems, lab tests, address educational needs and make referrals to other specialists. ID nurse clinicians also provide care to individuals with HCV, as well as care and counseling around PEP and PrEP.

The ideal candidate has experience with HIV Nursing, Substance Abuse and/ or Public Health. We are seeking a well-rounded clinically strong RN who can work independently with a patient case load. The RN in this role will have empathy, compassion, open mindedness and demonstrate a commitment to working with marginalized and vulnerable populations of people with different cultural and sexual orientations. ID nurses are vocal patient advocates who provide health equity within a safe, non-judgmental space and deliver quality wellness services that promote optimal health for our HIV community.

The RN in this role coordinates services within the interdisciplinary team using a trauma informed approach to assure high quality management of chronic disease. The qualified candidate will provide culturally competent services that enhance the quality of life and promote healthy living. We advocate for and provide a welcoming environment for underserved and vulnerable people, the LGBTQ Community, and individuals living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and HCV.

Responsibilities
  • Supports patient and families through procedures, medication therapy, emotional and financial issues, etc.
  • Provides telephone triage, prescription needs, and notification and implication of lab results.
  • Arranges for lab work and procedures. Provides timely notification to families of the results of test procedures, radiology studies, blood work, and any other tests ordered by the team.
  • Assists with patient and family needs and patient education materials.
  • Documents patient problems and progress.
  • Participates in interviewing and evaluation of staff.
  • Works with Nurse Manager to ensure adequate nursing coverage.
  • Acts as multi-disciplinary liaison with staff from radiology, laboratory, financial services, pharmacies, medical insurance companies, referring providers, and the in-patient units.
  • Assists with training and education of nursing students, medical students, and medical residents.
  • Participates in relevant educational offerings to enhance effectiveness and achieve required in-service training, and certification.
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned.

    • Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.
    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) with 3 years of clinical experience required.
    • Masters of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN) strongly preferred.
