Position Summary:

The Regional Safety Director is responsible for leading, implementing, and overseeing the company's health and safety programs throughout an assigned geographic region. This position provides strategic and hands-on safety leadership for construction projects, service operations, fabrication activities, and other company operations within the region.

Working under the direction of the Corporate Director of Health and Safety, the Regional Safety Director ensures company safety standards, policies, and procedures are consistently implemented and followed across all assigned locations and projects. This position serves as the primary safety leader and resource for regional Operations leadership, Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field employees.

The Regional Safety Director maintains a strong field presence while partnering with operational leadership to identify hazards, reduce risk, strengthen safety culture, improve safety performance, and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, client, and company requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of health and safety programs throughout the assigned region.
  • Lead the implementation and execution of company-wide safety initiatives, policies, procedures, and expectations within the region.
  • Ensure regional operations comply with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, client requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local standards.
  • Serve as the primary safety leader for assigned offices, jobsites, service operations, and facilities within the region.
  • Maintain a consistent field presence through regular jobsite visits, safety observations, inspections, audits, and employee engagement.
  • Conduct comprehensive safety audits and inspections and partner with Operations leadership to address deficiencies and corrective actions.
  • Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field leadership to proactively identify and mitigate jobsite hazards.
  • Review and support Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task planning, site-specific safety plans, and other project safety documentation.
  • Assist project teams with interpreting and implementing customer and general contractor safety requirements.
  • Oversee and support safety training, toolbox talks, orientations, and other employee safety education within the assigned region.
  • Coach regional and field leadership on safe work practices, hazard recognition, regulatory requirements, accountability, and company expectations.
  • Promote employee engagement and accountability for safety at all levels of the organization.
  • Lead or oversee incident, injury, near-miss, property damage, and vehicle accident investigations within the assigned region.
  • Ensure incidents are properly documented, investigated, communicated, and addressed in accordance with company procedures.
  • Identify trends and root causes and partner with operational leadership to develop and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Assist with OSHA recordkeeping, reporting requirements, and regulatory inspections as directed by the Corporate Director of Health and Safety.
  • Monitor and evaluate regional safety performance, including observations, incidents, corrective actions, trends, and other key safety performance indicators.
  • Provide regular regional safety updates, recommendations, and reports to the Corporate Director of Health and Safety and regional leadership.
  • Assist with workers' compensation investigations, return-to-work coordination, and loss prevention efforts as needed.
  • Oversee subcontractor and contractor safety compliance within the region and ensure applicable company and project requirements are communicated and followed.
  • Participate in project planning, preconstruction meetings, kickoff meetings, leadership meetings, and other operational meetings where safety involvement is appropriate.
  • Assist in developing and implementing emergency response procedures for assigned locations and projects.
  • Support the Corporate Director of Health and Safety in developing and continuously improving company-wide safety programs, policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and development to Safety Managers, Safety Coordinators, Safety Specialists, or other safety personnel assigned to the region, as applicable.
  • Collaborate with other Regional Safety Directors and safety leadership to promote consistency, share best practices, and strengthen the overall company safety program.
  • Travel regularly throughout the assigned region and to project locations as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Attributes

  • Strong knowledge of construction safety practices, OSHA regulations, and industry standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead safety programs across multiple projects and locations within an assigned geographic region.
  • Knowledge of commercial construction environments, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, fabrication, and service operations.
  • Proven leadership ability with experience influencing safety performance and culture across multiple levels of an organization.
  • Strong field presence with the ability to effectively engage employees, field leadership, and executive management.
  • Ability to identify hazards, evaluate organizational and project risk, and develop practical solutions.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with Operations leadership, Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, field employees, customers, and subcontractors.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, locations, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain professionalism when addressing sensitive or high-risk safety matters.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently throughout the assigned region.
  • Ability to access active construction sites and work in varying indoor and outdoor environments.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Safety Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive construction safety experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in a Safety Director, Regional Safety Director, Safety Manager, or similar safety leadership role preferred.
  • Experience overseeing safety across multiple construction projects, locations, or operational teams strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience leading or developing safety personnel preferred.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required.
  • OSHA 500/510 certification preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or similar professional safety certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the assigned region required.
