DescriptionThe Regional Global Practice Manager leads the strategic development and overall performance of the Great Lakes Region's Transportation (TRN) Global Practice, based in Chicago. The Great Lakes Region has offices in Chicago and Downers Grove, IL; Southfield, MI; Lexington, KY; and Madison, WI, and supports clients throughout those locations and surrounding markets. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a growing and evolving transportation practice, helping expand Burns & McDonnell's reach in alternative delivery, heavy civil construction, and multidisciplinary infrastructure programs for DOT, Municipal, Port, Railroad and/or Rail served industrial development clients. The role is responsible for driving growth across traditional Transportation market segments and new areas to diversify the business, working closely with regional and national leadership to capitalize on emerging opportunities and shape the future direction of the practice.
This position is accountable for achieving sales, revenue, and income targets while developing and executing long-term business strategies, including operational, marketing, and client engagement plans. The Regional Global Practice Manager works with senior leadership across the region and national team to identify target clients and build strong relationships. The role will designate appropriate teams and support as the Project Executive on key pursuits from early positioning through proposal development, contract negotiation, and delivery.
The role drives market expansion by identifying new opportunities, supporting alternative delivery strategies, and fostering strategic partnerships. The successful candidate will bring deep client and contractor relationships and a demonstrated ability to build trust, develop business, and lead initiatives across both public- and private-sector markets. This leader is responsible for driving profitable execution and growth through strong financial and operational oversight, including forecasting, risk management, margin protection, and proactive project performance management.
Leads, develops, and inspires a high-performing, multidisciplinary team. Responsible for hiring, performance management, and professional development of employee-owners while fostering an inclusive and collaborative culture.
Oversees project execution to ensure delivery meets or exceeds client expectations for safety, quality, schedule, and budget. May serve as Project Manager on key initiatives. Ensures adherence to Burns & McDonnell's quality and safety programs and promotes a strong culture of compliance.
Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all company policies and standards.
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or related field from an accredited program and 10 years (15 years preferred) of relevant experience in consulting, engineering, or project management required.
- Proven experience in business development, client relationship management, and strategic growth within the Transportation market. The ideal candidate will have this experience in some combination of DOT, Municipal, Port and/or Rail markets.
- Demonstrated success managing projects, including proposals, contracts, budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in transportation and/or heavy civil alternative delivery including relationships in the contractor community.
- Experience collaborating across multiple business units, practices, or disciplines to pursue and deliver transportation and heavy civil projects, including work that spans multiple markets, service lines, and client sectors preferred.
- Strong leadership experience with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
- Business and financial acumen with experience achieving revenue and profitability targets.
- Knowledge of Transportation market dynamics, delivery methods, and construction practices, including experience with alternative delivery models such as design-build and progressive design-build preferred.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to influence and lead across teams and organizational levels.
Compensation $155,000.00-525,000.00 Yearly
The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
