About this roleWe are looking for a Real Estate Litigation Associate Attorney with 2-6 years of civil litigation experience to join a well-known 25+ year boutique firm in San Francisco that represents Bay Area property owners and landlords. The firm gets 10-15 new intakes a day and needs a stable, long-term litigator who can run several matters at once. You'll get real responsibility early, work closely with a small team, and have a clear path to Senior Associate or Shareholder.
What will you be doing?- Handling a steady flow of new matters, mainly landlord-tenant cases, along with land use, property rights and commercial leasing disputes, for landlord and property-owner clients only
- Managing several active matters at once, from intake through discovery, law and motion, and trial prep
- Drafting and arguing pleadings, motions and writs in state and federal courts and administrative hearings
- Working directly with clients and opposing counsel, including negotiating settlements
- Working on litigation with the shareholders and other attorneys while a full team of paralegals, legal assistants and billing staff handles the admin work (you just track your time)
Key Requirements- Active California Bar membership in good standing (where you went to law school doesn't matter much)
- 2-6 years of hands-on civil litigation experience as an associate, including law and motion, discovery and court appearances; internships and bar-pending candidates don't count
- A stable work history: switching firms often (for example, about one year at each) is a dealbreaker because of flight risk
- Strong legal writing: a litigation writing sample is required, and the shareholders review it closely
- Proven ability to manage many matters and deadlines at once; real estate or landlord-tenant litigation experience is strongly preferred
Role responsibilities• Provide legal counsel to property owners on real estate and landlord-tenant matters.
• Provide occasional support on real estate purchase-and-sale matters.
• Represent clients in administrative hearings, trial court proceedings, and appeals.
• Draft and argue pleadings, motions, and writs.
• Conduct legal research and analyze statutes, regulations, and case law.
• Manage discovery and support trial preparation.
• Communicate directly with clients and opposing counsel.
• Negotiate settlements and draft agreements to resolve disputes.
