Full Job Description
Job Title: Radiation Therapy Tech - Senior
Department: Radiology
Location: Rochester General Hospital
Hours Per Week: 40
Schedule: Mon - Fri; rotation of 7 am - 3:30 pm, 7:30 am - 4 pm & 8 am - 4:30 pm

SUMMARY:

To coordinate the transition of treatment planning information between the clinical area and physics. Working closely with physicians and dosimetry staff to initiate the start of new treatment plans. Assists dosimetrists with treatment planning. Assures that daily quality checks are completed on all therapy equipment as directed by physics staff. Assures that all quality checks are completed on the treatment chart prior to initiation of treatment. Mentors and gives technical direction to the radiation therapist staff and students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinates the flow of Dosimetry work from start (simulation) to plan completion.
  • Reviews daily simulation schedule and transition information to physics.
  • Complete point calculations for emergent treatments and those directed by dosimetry staff.
  • Works with dosimetry staff daily to ensure the timely arrival of all upcoming boost plans to the treatment machine.
  • Assist the dosimetrist in obtaining prescriptions from physicians for treatment plans.
  • Reviews charts to check that radiation prescriptions are being carried out properly, documentation is correct, and patient consents are documented.
  • Mentors and gives technical direction to the radiation therapist team and the radiation therapist students.
  • Assures that all policies and procedures are being followed by the radiation therapist team.
  • Facilitates communication between the physician and the therapy team as needed.
  • Provides therapy support to treatment machines as needed by fulfilling daily delivery of the treatment plan to patients as stated in the prescription.
  • Works with the Radiation Therapist Lead in facilitating weekly team meetings to communicate information to the radiation therapist team.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduated from a 2-year Radiation Therapist Program.
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a radiation therapist
  • NYS Licensure as Radiation Therapist


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • ARRT registered


EDUCATION:
AS: Radiologic Technology (Required)

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:
RSA - Registered Specialist Assistant - New York State Education Department (NYSED)New York State Education Department (NYSED), RTC - Radiologic Technologist certification - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
