The R&D Scientist position is responsible for assisting in product development and production scale up along with daily execution of R&D related lab activities.
Key Job Functions:
This is a list of the essential functions; however other duties may apply:
• Formulate and prepare different types of collagen based products for various applications, following their development from inception to completion.
• Plan, design and conduct experiments to develop new products and product optimization.
• Conduct lab experiments, field trials, hands-on bench development prototypes, and pilot scale tests.
• Design collagen based products that adhere to regulatory guidelines, ensure that products meet consumer success criteria parameters, while also meeting commercial sale necessities, such as quality and cost requirements.
• Design products to ensure reproducibility with, while considering the impact on plant operations.
• Provide creative engineering expertise to the company's R&D and Product Development Teams, while also supporting critical production issues.
• Provide technical reports for all applicable data collections and studies associated with product development and/or problem solving technical services.
• Perform process capability analysis, and design experiments and trials for collagen casings for food applications and collagen gel for Bio-Medical applications.
• Formulate new dyes for colored collaged casings using food grade colorants and perform physical and chemical analysis tests for food and Bio-Medical applications.
• Maintains an active development program for self-improvement of skills and knowledge.
• Follows good safety practices in performance of daily job responsibilities
Work environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is loud.

• Incumbent must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of times.
• Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time
• Will climb stairs/ladders on an occasional basis
• Incumbent must be able to work on mechanical machines and computer/laptop for extended period of time

Education:
• Bachelors of Science degree in Food Science, Biochemistry or Chemical Engineering
• Master's degree +
• 2+ years' experience in R&D preferred
