R&D Electrical Engineer (Mid-Career)

**U.S. Citizenship Required- No Dual Citizenship Permitted**

Location: Evanston, WY (Full-time, On-Site)

Reports To: Senior Electrical Engineer

About BMAF: Black Mesa Advanced Fission specializes in research and development of Fission Generators. BMAF is under contract to the U.S. Army to develop and test the prototype for a sub-100kWe Fission Generator…electrical generation system incorporating nuclear energy technology

Position Overview: (**Sole U.S. Citizenship Required**)

This role is perfect for an engineer who has mastered the fundamentals of power electronics and control systems and has demonstrated ownership over project milestones and integrated hardware deployment. You will bridge the gap between high-level system architecture and hands-on implementation, working with 480 VAC distribution to precision servo control in radiation-sensitive environments

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Deployment: Support the end-to-end deployment of energy generation, transfer, and storage systems, ensuring all hardware meets internal and external integration requirements
  • Control Loop Tuning: Implement PID control systems for voltage, current, and thermal management
  • Motion Control: Integrated stepper and servo controllers for automated system components
  • Power Distribution: Design and document 480 VAC electrical layouts, focusing on safety, circuit protection, and industrial compliance
  • Rad-Hard Implementation: Work with senior staff to select and integrate radiation-hardened electronics, ensuring system longevity in high-energy environments
  • Data & Instrumentation: Set up and manage Data Acquisition (DAQ) hardware to monitor system performance and provide clear data for analysis
  • Project Coordination: Track project milestones, update timelines, and assist in identifying and mitigating technical risks throughout the project lifecycle
  • CAD Documentation: Create and maintain high-quality electrical and mechanical drawings using CAD software


Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum of B.S. in related Engineering field plus 3-5 years professional experience in power systems, robotics, or industrial automation
  • Experience managing small-to-medium project tasks and a proactive approach to risk management
  • Practical experience with 480 VAC power distribution and industrial electrical standards
  • Solid understanding of PID theory and experience implementing controllers in a real-world setting
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM/FEA (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor, or Abaqus)
