Job Summary
The Qualys Senior Engineer will serve as the technical lead and subject matter expert for the Qualys platform and its vulnerability management capabilities. The role focuses on designing scanning strategies, configuring and optimizing Qualys scanning capabilities, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and establishing engineering standards for scanning, reporting, integrations, automation, and platform operations. The engineer will work extensively with Qualys VMDR and Policy Compliance (PCA), while supporting the future maturity and adoption of the Asset module. The role requires deep hands-on Qualys expertise, strong communication skills, knowledge of Windows and Linux/Unix environments, and the ability to develop automation using scripting and AI-assisted tools.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise for the Qualys platform and associated vulnerability management capabilities.
• Design scanning strategies based on Qualys capabilities, limitations, and enterprise requirements.
• Lead the design, configuration, optimization, and ongoing engineering of Qualys scanning capabilities.
• Establish and promote engineering standards and best practices for scanning, reporting, integrations, automation, and platform operations.
• Configure, optimize, and support Qualys VMDR and Policy Compliance (PCA) modules.
• Support the progressive adoption and maturity of the Qualys Asset module.
• Troubleshoot vulnerability scanning failures, authentication challenges, configuration issues, and other complex Qualys platform problems.
• Optimize scanning operations and improve the reliability and effectiveness of vulnerability management processes.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, security, cloud, application, and vendor teams to resolve technical issues and support platform integrations.
• Develop scripting and automation solutions, preferably using Python and AI-assisted capabilities, to improve operational efficiency.
• Mentor engineers and help strengthen Qualys and vulnerability management expertise across the team.
• Apply knowledge of enterprise networking and infrastructure, including firewalls, routing, network segmentation, and authentication, to troubleshoot scanning and connectivity issues.
Required Qualifications
• Deep hands-on experience with the Qualys platform and its vulnerability management capabilities.
• Strong understanding of Qualys modules, including VMDR and Policy Compliance (PCA), and the ability to assess platform capabilities and limitations.
• Experience designing and implementing vulnerability scanning strategies in enterprise environments.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot vulnerability scan failures, authentication challenges, and complex platform issues.
• Experience optimizing Qualys scanning operations, configurations, reporting, and platform performance.
• Experience working with blended Windows and Linux/Unix environments.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, firewalls, routing, network segmentation, authentication concepts, and enterprise infrastructure.
• Scripting and automation experience, preferably with Python; familiarity with AI-assisted automation is beneficial.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues, recommendations, and platform capabilities clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with infrastructure, security, application, cloud, and vendor teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience maturing and expanding Qualys Asset module capabilities and adoption.
• Experience developing automated workflows for vulnerability management, scanning, reporting, and platform operations.
• Experience mentoring engineers and establishing technical standards and operational best practices.
