Full Job Description
As a Quality Supervisor for PCL Construction Management Inc. in Edmonton, Alberta (Buildings), you will contribute to our team by leading project quality initiatives, ensuring compliance with specifications and industry standards, and fostering a culture of quality excellence across all phases of construction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise daily Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) activities for civil and building construction scopes.
  • Review prime contracts, subcontracts, project specifications, drawings, and applicable codes to identify quality requirements and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Participate in pre-construction planning and constructability reviews to identify quality requirements, inspection milestones, and project quality risks.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Project Quality Plan, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), inspection checklists, and quality procedures.
  • Plan, coordinate, assign, and oversee inspection activities performed by Quality Coordinators and Inspectors.
  • Perform and oversee inspections of civil and building work, including earthworks, underground utilities, foundations, reinforcing steel, concrete, structural steel, architectural finishes, waterproofing, building envelope systems, and site development.
  • Witness inspections and testing activities, verify compliance with project specifications, and ensure quality records are complete, accurate, and properly maintained.
  • Identify quality risks and implement preventive measures to minimize defects, rework, and schedule impacts.
  • Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), including investigations, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, verification of effectiveness, and closeout.
  • Coordinate with construction management, engineering, subcontractors, suppliers, owners, consultants, and third-party testing agencies to resolve quality issues efficiently.
  • Verify that delivered materials, equipment, and installed products comply with approved submittals, project specifications, and applicable standards.
  • Review and monitor subcontractor Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), inspection records, and quality performance.
  • Conduct quality audits of subcontractors, suppliers, and project processes to verify compliance with project requirements and quality management procedures.
  • Lead quality planning meetings, inspection planning sessions, and quality coordination meetings with project stakeholders.
  • Monitor project quality performance through inspection metrics, NCR trends, corrective action tracking, and other quality performance indicators.
  • Support internal and external quality audits and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage quality documentation, turnover packages, inspection records, test reports, material certifications, and project closeout documentation.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop Quality Coordinators, Inspectors, and field supervision while promoting a proactive quality culture across the project.
  • Support commissioning, deficiency management, system turnover, and final acceptance activities.
  • Facilitate lessons learned sessions and implement process improvements to enhance overall project quality performance.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in construction quality management, including supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of civil and building construction methods, materials, specifications, and quality management practices.
  • Proven experience supervising inspection activities on commercial, industrial, institutional, infrastructure, or mission-critical projects.
  • Thorough understanding of construction drawings, specifications, applicable building codes, and industry standards.
  • Experience developing and implementing Project Quality Plans and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Strong knowledge of earthworks, concrete construction, reinforcing steel, structural steel, underground utilities, building envelope systems, waterproofing, and architectural finishes.
  • Experience with quality audits, document control, turnover documentation, and quality management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and mitigate construction quality risks.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple activities while maintaining quality and schedule commitments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to resolve conflicts and build effective working relationships with project teams, clients, consultants, and trade partners.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and digital quality management platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Procore, or equivalent.
