Quality Manager - Construction Prefabrication

Location: Richmond, VA
Department: Manufacturing
Reports To: Director of Manufacturing
Classification: Exempt
Salary:$115,000-$130,000 annually, based on experience

What You'll Do

As the Quality Manager, you will:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive Quality Management System (QMS) for our prefabrication operations.
  • Create quality procedures, inspection plans, and work instructions for sheet metal fabrication, mechanical piping, welding, and assembly.
  • Establish process audit routines to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Define and monitor key quality metrics including first-pass yield, defect rates, rework, process capability, and overall production quality.
  • Develop and implement Statistical Process Control (SPC) systems to monitor manufacturing performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Analyze quality data and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a team of Quality Inspectors.
  • Train production personnel on quality standards, inspection procedures, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, precision, safety, and operational excellence throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management, and Operations to improve product quality and manufacturing processes.
  • Lead structured root cause investigations using methodologies such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, and FMEA.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications and applicable industry standards, including ASME, SMACNA, and AWS.
  • Maintain inspection records, certifications, and quality documentation.
  • Prepare KPI dashboards, quality reports, and trend analyses for leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of quality management experience within manufacturing, construction, fabrication, or prefabrication environments.
  • Experience developing and implementing Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Experience leading quality teams and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Experience conducting root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Manufacturing, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience supporting:
    • Sheet metal fabrication
    • Mechanical pipe fabrication
    • Pipe welding
    • Modular or off-site construction
  • Knowledge of:
    • ISO 9001
    • Lean Manufacturing
    • Six Sigma
    • SPC
    • Minitab
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Power BI
  • Experience using inspection equipment including gauges, CMMs, visual inspection tools, and non-destructive testing (NDT).


Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work throughout a manufacturing environment while wearing required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, high-visibility vest, and steel/composite toe boots.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and inspect manufacturing operations for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely lift materials as needed. Heavy lifting over 80 pounds requires proper planning and the use of lifting equipment or team assistance.
  • Ability to perform visual inspections and safely navigate manufacturing operations.
