Full Job Description
JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE:

Under the direction of the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer is primarily responsible for: acting as the champion of problem-solving activities; supporting new product development by determining and verifying customer requirements; and aiding in the maintenance of the quality management system through quality systems training ensuring the achievement of production objectives at the lowest cost consistent with the company quality standards and customer delivery needs

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded from time to time to include other duties and responsibilities as management deems necessary.

  • Comply with all safety and health guidelines, quality requirements, standard practices/procedures, and housekeeping standards.
  • Manage customer complaint process with strong RCCA methodologies.
  • Support new product development with advanced APQP techniques.
  • Manage, maintain and uphold plant-based portions of the QMS.
  • Comply with all safety and health guidelines, quality standard practices/procedures, and housekeeping standards.
  • Be a strong voice for quality in the pre-production planning activities; provide guidance for project engineering with regards to customer specifications and requirements.
  • Provide engineering support to operations ensuring consistent application of quality techniques.
  • Effectively communicate and reinforce the commitment to quality improvement efforts.
  • Develop and submit PPAP documents for new product launches to meet customer requirements.
  • Aid the development of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Control Plans.
  • Assist with corporate quality system processes and accreditations - IATF/ISO/etc audits and accreditations, customer quality systems, audits, corrective action/problem solving, and internal processes and audit programs.
  • Develop and innovate in all areas of quality system processes.
  • Be a resident expert in APQP, Control Plan, FMEA, MSA, and PPAP.
  • Support Sales and Engineering for all customer quality issues and audits.
  • Facilitate and promote the use of appropriate problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective action for high visibility product quality issues.
  • Apply appropriate use of statistical techniques.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Requires a bachelor's degree in a technical or manufacturing-related field from a four-year college or university or 5 to 7 years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing or foundry environment. Must be competent with blueprints, technical specifications, AIAG PPAP requirements, and GD&T concepts.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Must be able to effectively communicate with other employees to share information, solves problems, and instructs or train lesser skilled employees. Must have the ability to read and interpret complex documents such as blueprints, shop orders, work plans, and short correspondence. Must be able to write standard reports and documentation.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Requires the ability to operate various equipment including computers, various precision measuring devices, and lifting devices. Requires a broad knowledge of tooling, material characteristics, and general manufacturing and machining practices. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and/or hear, and/or use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, and/or walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

Safety glasses and safety shoes must be worn in all manufacturing areas. Additional PPE may be required as needed.
