Full Job Description
Position Summary
Owns product quality for PowerTec's MV switchgear, MV MCCs, LV switchgear and LV MCCs, from incoming components through factory testing and shipment. Make sure every lineup meets its UL and IEEE/ANSI standards and the customer's specifications and drawings, and ships with a complete quality record.
Essential Duties
Write inspection and test plans (ITPs) for each lineup from the customer's specifications and approved drawings.
Lead factory acceptance testing (FAT) and customer witness tests: dielectric (hipot), insulation resistance, contact resistance, breaker operation, CT polarity and ratio, and control-circuit functional tests.
Inspect in-process and finished equipment: bus torque, clearances, wiring to drawings, labeling and nameplates.
Run nonconformance (NCR) and corrective action (CAPA) processes using 8D and 5-Why root-cause methods, and verify that fixes hold.
Inspect incoming material; manage supplier nonconformances with Supply Chain and perform source inspections when needed.
Compile each lineup's quality turnover package: test reports, inspection records, calibration certificates and as-built records.
Maintain the calibration program for test and measurement equipment.
Host UL follow-up inspections; maintain ISO 9001-aligned quality procedures and records.
Investigate field issues and warranty returns to root cause.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
Must have significant hands-on experience with MV switchgear, MV MCCs, LV switchgear and LV MCCs: inspection, testing and quality documentation.
Working knowledge of UL 891, UL 845, UL 1558, UL 347, and IEEE C37.20.1 and C37.20.2.
Hands-on with hipot, insulation resistance, micro-ohm, and primary and secondary injection testing, following NFPA 70E for energized work.
Familiar with the breakers, protective relays and motor starters of manufacturers such as Eaton, Powell, ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric and SEL.
Reads schematics, wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams and assembly drawings fluently.
Disciplined root-cause and corrective action work, with clear test reports that stand up to customer review.
Occasional overnight travel to supplier plants and customer job sites for source inspections and field issues, up to 15%.
Education/Experience
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
5+ years of quality, test or manufacturing engineering on MV and LV switchgear and MCCs.
Ideally, experience in the large industrial electrical equipment industry (switchgear or MCC manufacturer, or field testing).
ASQ CQE, NETA certification or Six Sigma Green Belt a plus.
Physical Requirements
Based on the production floor and test bay, with office time for documentation.
Stand and walk for extended periods; kneel, crouch and climb to inspect equipment interiors.
Lift and position test equipment up to 50 lbs.
Wear required PPE, including arc-rated PPE during energized testing.
