Full Job Description
Title: Engineer II or Sr, Quality (Defect Analysis, Pack)

Reports to: Manager, DA

Location: Holland, MI.

Summary:

As a Defect Analysis Engineer or Senior Engineer, you will conduct analysis of lithium-ion battery systems (small, medium/large Cell, ESS) and BMS (Battery Management System) related accident site investigations, failure part investigations, and internal/external failure sample analysis. This role you will conduct reproduction experiments (cell and pack level) under controlled conditions and identify clear root causes of safety-related issues. This role serves as a key contributor in improving product safety, supporting corrective actions, and ensuring safe battery performance for customers.

Responsibilities:
  • Organize and streamline processes/procedures
  • Derive the root cause through on-site verification, investigation, and ignition analysis of safety issues
  • Conduct a reproducibility experiment to verify the probable cause of a field issue
  • Perform Cell/Module/Pack tear-down analysis and reporting
  • Analyze structural and design safety risks of automobile & battery (Pack to Cell) system
  • Analyze risk and cause through buyback and issue adjacent cell analysis
  • Analyze the cause of battery failure through precision analysis equipment
  • Conduct failure analysis using precision diagnostic equipment
  • Create instruction and diagnostic manuals
  • Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards:
    1. Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain
    2. Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent, relevant experience
  • Experience in a Quality Engineering role or Reproducible experiment work in an automotive manufacturing environment including internship or co-op's experience
  • Strong understanding of electrical and electronic circuits, including circuit theory and operating principle
  • Strong problem-solving skills related to electrical and electronic components and systems

Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience, including internship or co-op experience, in a Quality Engineering role or Reproducible experiment work in an automotive manufacturing environment
  • Fire related failure parts analysis experience including EV/PHEV vehicle diagnosis (GST)
  • Experience in electrical and electronic circuit analysis (voltage, current, resistance, signal measurement and analysis)
  • Experience diagnosing circuit-level issues and performing root cause analysis
  • Experience working with BMS, power supply systems, sensors, and protection circuits
