In this strategic role, you will help transform the Quality function by shifting the business from traditional Quality Control toward a robust, proactive Quality Assurance model built around designing quality into our UUV and USV products and making quality data actionable across the enterprise. As the leader of the Quality Assurance organization, you will establish, implement, and mature quality-by-design practices, early lifecycle quality gates, risk-based engineering assessments, and continuous learning loops. You will partner closely with Engineering, Operations, Programs, and Supplier Management to ensure our unmanned systems meet their mission-critical performance, safety, and reliability goals. This team will be supported by dedicated Quality Engineering resources enabling stronger ownership of NCR/RCCA/CAPA, improved process discipline, and more effective prevention-based quality assurance.
The Quality Assurance Manager will:- Lead the development and execution of HII's Quality Assurance strategy for the Unmanned Systems business, with emphasis on designing quality into products from requirements through LRIP and sustainment.
- Implement and manage the full suite of QA lifecycle gates, including System FMEA initiation, CTQ development, DFMEA and PFMEA progression, MSA, PPIP, capability checks, and Production Readiness Reviews.
- Drive adoption of structured Quality Plans, Control Plans, and early-phase manufacturability and assembly reviews (DFM/A).
- Oversee NCR, RCCA, and CAPA performance, ensuring timely closure, effective containment, rigorous root cause analysis, and prevention-oriented corrective actions.
- Build an integrated quality data ecosystem that transforms QC and production data into actionable insights for Engineering, Programs, and Supply Chain.
- Establish and monitor QA metrics and KPIs that measure design maturity, process capability, risk burndown, and quality performance across the product lifecycle.
- Collaborate extensively with Engineering to embed requirements traceability, verification/validation readiness, and risk-based quality gates into technical reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, PRR).
- Partner with Supplier Quality to ensure external suppliers and subcontractors meet critical-to-quality (CTQ) requirements and support risk-based incoming quality planning.
- Support compliance to ISO 9001 standards as well as relevant environmental and safety management systems (ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001).
