Description
About the Role
At Lorenz Clinic, licensed psychotherapists serve in applied, meaningful roles, providing diagnostic assessment, psychotherapy, and treatment planning to a diverse clientele across the lifespan. Clinicians practice within their areas of competence and specialty, with support for developing clinical interests over time.
Our clinics are embedded in Main Street communities, places where behavioral health access is too often out of reach. We're not a boutique practice. We're a relational home for those committed to the social mission of psychotherapy. Over 43% of our clients use Medicaid, and our sliding fee scale goes to zero, a tangible reflection of our values. Despite the complexity of our client population, our no-show rate is under 10%, a testament to the strength of our engagement practices and the quality of therapeutic relationships.
Reflective Practice, ongoing consultation, and clinician well-being are central to our operations. We run a committee-driven Wellness Roadmap, backed by evidence and co-designed with staff input. This roadmap supports manageable caseloads, fairness, autonomy, and relational support, values our clinicians say make a real difference.
In anonymous, third-party Gallup surveys, 95% of our clinicians say they would recommend Lorenz to a colleague. But it's not just the systems that set us apart, it's the people. In recent feedback, clinicians shared:
- "We have the best people... the best therapists and the best humans." - Senior Clinician
- "I could make a mistake." - Practicum Student
- "I knew I'd get through it because of the support." - Post-Master's Fellow
- "I have my life back." - New Hire
- "Such a cohesive group." - Clinical Manager
- "This is my therapy home... my forever job." - Senior Clinician
- "Such an organized experience." - Trainee
Clinicians participate in regular case consultation, Grand Rounds, and team meetings as part of our collaborative culture. We are a place where clinical rigor meets community impact, where therapists grow alongside others who are deeply committed to both their craft and each other.
Key Responsibilities As a licensed clinician at Lorenz Clinic, you'll be entrusted with providing psychotherapy that takes into account the full complexity of human development, relational dynamics, and systemic context. Your responsibilities will include:
- Deliver psychotherapy and diagnostic assessment within your clinical areas of competence
- Develop treatment approaches that reflect relational, cultural, and developmental understanding
- Engage in regular consultation, Grand Rounds, and reflective supervision with your peers
- Participate in a learning-focused, feedback-rich clinical community
- Maintain accurate, timely, and clinically meaningful documentation
- Uphold Lorenz's commitment to integrity, humility, and systems-based care
- Other duties as assigned within a collaborative, clinician-led system
Requirements
We are seeking clinicians who combine clinical competence with humility, reflective capacity, systems thinking, and a commitment to ongoing development. Our most successful applicants are seasoned interventionists who also remain curious learners.
Job Requirements The most successful candidates will evidence a track record of service as an interventionist with a high degree of professional activity within the field. The position requirements include but are not limited to:
- A master's or doctoral degree in a mental health profession from an accredited academic program
- Full, independent, unrestricted licensure as a mental health professional in Minnesota (LMFT, LICSW, or LPCC). Pre-licensed therapists such as LGSWs or LAMFTs should instead consider Lorenz's Post-Master's Fellowship or Postdoctoral Fellowship positions unless licensure is imminent within four months.
- At least two years of post-master's experience providing predominantly outpatient psychotherapy
- The ability to approach psychotherapy from systemic, relational, and developmental theoretical perspectives.
- At least 2 years providing clinical supervision (preferred)
- Formal training in child, couples, family therapy, relational / interpersonal, or contemporary psychodynamic psychotherapy (preferred)
Note for Post-Graduate, Pre-Licensed Applicants:
If you're a recent graduate pursuing licensure and are excited about this kind of structured, scope-aligned counseling, we encourage you to apply. While this job posting is for fully and independently licensed psychotherapists, we occasionally fill separate, related roles through our Post-Master's Fellowship Program. Pre-licensed professionals will be considered under a separate title and pay structure that reflects the training and supervision tailored to your stage of professional development. Simply indicate your licensure status in your application, and we'll route your materials to the appropriate hiring stream.

Our burnout leave, CEU time, and flexible schedules are designed to prevent burnout before it starts. And as an active training clinic, most clinicians at Lorenz earn about 100 hours per year of board-approved continuing education just from showing up to work. The clinic hosts an annual conference, monthly grand rounds, and four hours per month of case consultation with a specialist.
While this is primarily an in-person role, most clinicians at Lorenz Clinic incorporate some hybrid work depending on licensure, program fit, and clinical needs. For an unabridged job description or more information about our benefits including student loan repayment program, please contact human resources.
Compensation The compensation hiring range for this role is $78,000 - $125,000, which is dependent on candidate qualifications, program fit, chosen caseload, and competencies. Licensed psychologists should apply via a different posting for that role. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt, benefits-eligible, W2 role.
Candidates without independent licensure will be reviewed through our pre-licensed pathway and considered for related roles under the title Post-Master's Fellow. The compensation range listed above is for fully and independently licensed clinicians.
Application Process To apply, submit a cover letter and CV via the online job portal for your preferred clinic location. A cover letter is required. The cover letter is the primary means by which we assess whether a candidate has understood the clinic, why they want to be here specifically, and whether their goals represent a genuine match. Cover letters should address:
- Professional goals and what you hope to develop during their time at Lorenz
- Commitment to the common good and to the profession
- A brief narrative of your experience providing psychotherapy
We give meaningful consideration to applicants who thoughtfully articulate their interest in Lorenz Clinic's systemic, relational, and developmental model. Professionalism and intentional communication are central to our culture, and applications submitted without a cover letter will be considered incomplete.
Selection Criteria We look for psychotherapists who are relationally oriented, systemically minded, developmentally attuned, and work at interpersonal depth over time. Candidates are evaluated through variegated means based on a multitude of factors including but not limited to clinical competence (knowledge, skills, and attitudes), ability to perform job duties to a high degree of quality, potential to positively impact the field, and consistency with the clinic's Core Values and mission. We evaluate candidates based not only on credentials but also on mission alignment, professional competence, theory-science-practice integration, and the capacity to thrive in a reflective, values-driven culture.
Clinicians are welcome to apply to one of more clinical programs:
- Outpatient Psychotherapy. Systemic, relational work over longer term psychotherapy.
- Intensive Outpatient Group Psychotherapy (IOP). Group- and family-based work within a higher level of care.
At times, clinicians may adopt a blended caseload across programs to extend development, depending on their stated learning goals and competence. Individual cases are assigned based on a multitude of factors including prior preparation, individualized professional goals, competencies, client goodness of fit, and community need. The clinic enjoys a strong referral base and waitlist, which allows for some choice in client ages and presenting concerns.
Individual & Cultural Diversity Lorenz Clinic is proudly committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse and inclusive workforce. We view Individual & Cultural Diversity as a professional competency area that applies to all professionals, one that requires specific knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Candidates who independently monitor and apply knowledge of self and others as a cultural beings in assessment, treatment, and consultation are especially encouraged to apply.
