Psychiatric Opportunity

This opportunity is full-time, 40 hours per week, with on-call

The Meadows Psychiatric Center is the leading behavioral health treatment facility in Central Pennsylvania. We are located a short distance outside State College, PA. The Meadows is a 119 inpatient behavioral health hospital and has been providing comprehensive services to children, adolescents, adults and older adults for 40 years.

This position is responsibile for:

- Providing therapeutic services to clients and their families at The Meadows and as needed in the clinic and community setting.

- Develops treatment plans by determining nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders; establishing treatment goals and methodologies.

- Maintaining interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress; consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care providers.

- Treating patients by utilizing psychotherapeutic methods and medications; discussing progress toward goals with patients; providing instructions; monitoring effect of medications; supervising staff provision of services.

- Advising and informing guardians, relatives, and significant others of patients' conditions and treatment.

- Assures quality and safe service for patients and staff by enforcing policies, procedures, standards, rules, Joint Commission for Accreditation of Health Care Organizations requirements, and legal regulations; participating in utilization reviews; remaining available for emergency consultations.

- Improving staff competence by providing training and discussions regarding the interrelationship between psychosocial and physiological problems, psychotropic medications, crisis intervention, and related issues.

- Demonstrating the ability to assess the strengths, therapeutic needs, and progression toward goals. Assesses the need for additional support services and assists the client in accessing them.

- Maintaining historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events; writing summaries. Gather and maintain patient information and records, including social and medical history obtained from patients, relatives, and other professionals.

- Collaborating with physicians, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress.

- Demonstrating ability to complete crisis assessment and make appropriate referrals for follow-up care. Attends clinical supervision/treatment team as scheduled.

- Participating in continuing medical educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

- Enhancing department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
