Full Job Description
Duties Description Manhattan Psychiatric Center (MPC), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) Joint Commission accredited facility, is recruiting Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrists for their Competency Restoration Unit (CRU). The CRU provides a multi-disciplinary approach to care for individuals who have been found incompetent to proceed in legal proceedings due to mental illness.

As a Psychiatrist at MPC, you will provide comprehensive, patient-centered, and recovery- focused treatments to individuals with mental health symptoms 18 years of age or older; including:
• Conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments and patient admissions
• Overseeing an average caseload of 8 - 10 individuals
• Creating treatment plans including medication management
• Identifying and treating psychiatric symptoms that impair competency
• Restoring the patient's competency-related abilities, improving understanding of the legal process and legal knowledge, assisting counsel in their own defense, and making informed decisions related to their case
• Providing competency-focused psychoeducation
• Preparing timely clinical documentation necessary to facilitate restoration and legal proceedings

Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (HELPS) program if they have:

Psychiatrist 1: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).

Psychiatrist 2: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.

OR

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Additional Comments Psychiatrists at OMH facilities are eligible for:
• Psychiatrist Loan Repayment Program offering up to $120,000

If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.

3. License and Certification: Loss of license or limited permit to practice medicine in New York State or board certification, if required, may result in removal from your position.
