The Advanced Practice Clinician (physician assistant/nurse practitioner) role in the Division of General Surgery provides care to patients in a University Health Sciences clinic and hospital unit. Individual will provide care for Upper Gastrointestinal as well as Bariatric Surgery patients as a part of the Comprehensive Weight Management Program. Responsibilities will include participating in preoperative and postoperative care in the outpatient setting as well as inpatient management. The Foregut/Bariatric Surgery service currently consists of 4 Attending Surgeons and 3 APCs. Incredible health care and retirement benefits. Responsibilities - Independent outpatient surgery clinic 1-2 days/week.
- Inpatient rounding, post-operative care, and hospital discharges.
- Assist in the operating room as needed in laparoscopic and robotic procedures - current estimated need is 1-3 days a month.
- Cover consultations from the emergency department or other hospital services.
- Treatment of vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
- Provide dietary and lifestyle education to promote weight loss.
- Respond to outpatient messages and telephone calls.
- Participate in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
- Assist in the collection for research projects.
- Participate in special projects and committee functions including team meetings and education conferences.

Minimum Qualifications Required
Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
Preferred
Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
Utah State prescriptive privileges.
Licensure is obtained by completing a Master's degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
