We9re looking for a P&C Claims Manager (Workers9 Compensation & General Liability) to manage the day-to-day of sweetgreen9s workers9 compensation and general liability claims across our restaurants. Sitting on the Operations Services team and reporting to the Senior Director of Risk + Safety, you will direct the claims adjusting service provided by our workers9 compensation carrier, oversee our general liability carrier, and serve as the internal point of contact connecting our restaurants, carriers, brokers, and defense counsel. This role is based onsite at our Los Angeles Support Center.

You will:
  • Direct the workers9 compensation claims program end to end, overseeing the carrier9s adjusting service from first report of injury through closure and ensuring timely, compliant reporting across all jurisdictions.
  • Review and challenge reserves, track incurred costs, drive resolution and settlement within an established authority framework, and pursue subrogation and fraud referrals.
  • Oversee the carrier9s handling of general liability claims (slip and fall, bodily injury, property damage), managing intake, notice, reserves, and defense strategy against the program9s deductible structure.
  • Build and partner with the People Team and Restaurant Operations on the return-to-work and modified duty program to reduce lost-time exposure, and serve as a clear, consistent point of contact for injured team members.
  • Manage carriers, nurse case managers, and other claims vendors, coordinate with defense counsel on litigated claims, and support the annual insurance renewal with loss runs and exposure data.
  • Work in partnership with the Customer Experience (CX) team to directly settle incidents and claims.
  • Maintain claims data and reporting, surface trends by location and injury type to inform safety and program decisions, and ensure compliance with jurisdiction-specific reporting, OSHA recordkeeping, and Medicare Secondary Payer requirements.

Desired traits:
  • Highly organized with strong follow-through, able to manage a large, fast-moving claims portfolio and competing deadlines.
  • Credibility with carrier claims service and adjusters, knowing when to push on reserves or strategy and how to hold them to their commitments.
  • A return-to-work mindset and the partnership skills to get team members back to appropriate work and keep lost-time costs down.
  • Strong analytical fluency, able to read claims and loss data and turn it into recommendations leadership can act on.
  • A clear, empathetic communicator who works credibly with injured team members, field operators, executives, carriers, and outside counsel.
  • Sound judgment about when to act within authority and when to escalate to Risk + Safety leadership.

Desired experience:
  • 5+ years managing workers9 compensation claims, and ideally general liability claims, in-house, at a carrier, or at a third-party administrator. Multi-state and California experience strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of workers9 compensation systems (reserving, return to work, medical management, litigation, and settlement) and general liability claims handling.
  • Experience directing or closely overseeing a carrier-provided claims and adjusting service and managing claims vendors and defense counsel.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort with claims data, loss runs, and reporting tools.
  • High-growth, multi-unit retail, restaurant, or hospitality experience is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications (California Self-Insurance Plans, WCCA, WCCP, AIC, ARM) are a plus.
