Summary
The Project Planner/Scheduler is responsible for creating, baselining, maintaining, and analyzing integrated Primavera P6 schedules for engineered-to-order products from pre-award planning through engineering and design completion and handoff to manufacturing. The role translates project scope, major-equipment commitments, engineering deliverables, procurement requirements, fabrication, assembly, testing, paint, and shipment milestones into logically linked, execution-ready schedules. The planner owns schedule integrity, maintains accurate actual and forecast dates, evaluates critical and near-critical paths, and communicates the downstream impact of changing activity dates so stakeholders can make timely decisions that protect customer commitments, capacity, and on-time delivery.
Principle Responsibilities and Duties
• Create and maintain detailed, logic-driven Primavera P6 schedules for engineered-to-order gas compression, gas processing, and related skidded equipment from opportunity or pre-award planning through project execution and handoff to manufacturing.
• Develop schedules from approved templates and project scope, including engineering and design deliverables, procurement and major-equipment dates, internal and outsourced fabrication, assembly, testing, paint, preservation, shipment, and Ready to Ship milestones.
• Establish and maintain approved schedule baselines. Compare current forecasts to baseline dates, quantify variance, and explain the cause and impact of movement to key milestones and customer commitments.
• Maintain complete schedule logic by assigning and validating predecessors, successors, relationship types, lags, calendars, constraints, durations, and milestone dependencies. Identify and correct open ends, invalid logic, excessive constraints, and other schedule-quality issues.
• Maintain the P6 data date and accurately update actual starts, actual finishes, remaining durations, expected finish dates, and percent complete using approved source systems and status inputs.
• Run and interpret Critical Path Method calculations. Identify the longest path, critical and near-critical activities, total float, negative float, out-of-sequence progress, and emerging schedule risks.
• Assess impacts whenever activity dates, durations, logic, calendars, constraints, equipment deliveries, engineering releases, fabrication dates, or manufacturing assumptions change. Trace effects through successor activities to floor date, testing, RTS, QSD, and other contractual milestones.
• Develop schedule scenarios and recovery options, including resequencing, alternate bay assignments, revised work calendars, overlapping work, and adjusted priorities. Clearly identify assumptions, risks, and recoverable days.
• Coordinate with Project Management, Engineering, Design, Procurement, Fabrication, Assembly, Quality, Contracts, Sales, and Planning to validate schedule inputs, resolve conflicting dates, and drive dependent tasks to completion.
• Review major-equipment and material delivery commitments against project need dates and schedule logic. Recommend changes to floor dates or sequence when deliveries, customer priorities, or shop constraints affect execution.
• Lead or support schedule review meetings and communicate changes through concise reports, milestone summaries, look-ahead plans, and decision-ready impact assessments.
• Maintain alignment between Primavera P6 and approved connected systems and reports. Follow defined source-of-truth and change-control requirements.
• Support project handoffs so manufacturing planners receive an accurate, current, and executable schedule with documented constraints, assumptions, and risks.
• Perform schedule quality checks before publishing updates and maintain sufficient schedule notes and change history to explain significant forecast movement.
• Improve scheduling templates, logic, reporting, planning processes, and schedule governance. Provide P6 process support and knowledge transfer to planners and stakeholders.
Qualifications
• Required: Demonstrated hands-on Primavera P6 Professional experience creating, baselining, status-updating, scheduling, and analyzing complex project schedules. The candidate must be able to work independently in P6 and explain how logic and date changes affect the critical path.
• Minimum 4 years of project planning or scheduling experience. Engineered-to-order manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
• Advanced understanding of Critical Path Method scheduling, including data dates, baselines, actual starts and finishes, remaining duration, relationship logic, constraints, calendars, total float, negative float, longest path, and out-of-sequence progress.
• Working knowledge of ERP and project systems. SAP Project Systems or Production Planning experience is preferred. Strong Microsoft Excel skills are required.
• Strong analytical judgment and attention to detail, with the ability to distinguish confirmed delay causes from schedule-based risks and communicate impacts clearly.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to lead schedule discussions and translate detailed P6 analysis into concise actions for project teams and leadership.
• Dependable, self-directed, organized, and able to manage multiple time-sensitive projects with limited daily supervision.
• Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Currently, our organization is unable to consider candidates who require visa sponsorship or the transfer of an existing visa to obtain or maintain work authorization in the United States.
Physical Requirements
Fast-paced general office and manufacturing-support environment. Many tasks have a high degree of time sensitivity. Occasional domestic or international travel may be required.
