Position Overview:A Project Manager in the electrical utility field provides project leadership for small, medium, and large underground electrical power distribution projects throughout the region. This position is accountable for all aspects of project success, with a strong emphasis on estimating and bidding underground power utility work, reviewing engineering plans and specifications, coordinating field execution, and meeting or exceeding client expectations through profitable completion of the job. The Project Manager collaborates with estimating, engineering, operations, safety, and field teams in the planning and execution of the work. This includes:
- Contract interpretation/dispute resolution.
- Assessing and recommending project resource requirements.
- Managing underground electrical power utility and distribution projects.
- Preparing and reviewing detailed estimates for underground electrical power utility work, including labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, production rates, and project risk.
- Developing quantity takeoffs and pricing for underground duct bank, conduit, cable, vault/manhole, trenching, excavation, backfill, restoration, and related electrical distribution scopes.
- Evaluating bid documents, drawings, specifications, site conditions, subcontractor/vendor quotations, and utility requirements to identify scope, exclusions, risks, and cost opportunities.
- Tracking project budgets, committed costs, labor productivity, change orders, forecasts, and cost-to-complete against the original estimate.
- Interfacing with client representatives regarding the project's progress.
- Management of project controls and accounting.
- Training, mentoring and coaching Assistant Project Managers.
- Ensure field engineering and underground utility construction activities comply with company, contract, utility-owner, and project requirements and support the overall construction schedule.
- Provide technical support for underground power construction, including constructability reviews, work planning, sequencing, and coordination of crews, equipment, and materials.
- Coordinate with engineering and estimating teams to assure completeness and correctness of design and construction documents. Plan, conduct, and monitor work in accordance with utility standards, engineering plans, specifications, and approved construction methods.
- This position is part of the company's Project Management Team and is considered strategic within the organization. The position will report to the company's office in Huntingdon Valley, PA and could include both long- and short-term field assignments, as determined by specified projects and the location of those projects.
Major Job Elements:- Manages overall project performance (safety, quality, scope, schedule, cost, communication, resources, risks, and customer satisfaction) for electrical power utility projects, with particular emphasis on underground distribution construction.
- Serves as single point-of-contact by establishing, maintaining and managing customer, subcontractor, and joint venture partner's expectations (where applicable) relating to project performance.
- Reports project status and performance data as required to management.
- Ensures strict adherence to all Safety Policies, Procedures and Practices.
- Plans, monitors, and controls the project throughout its life cycle, including takeoffs and estimating, bid preparation, contract award, engineering/design review, procurement, underground construction, change management, cost control, and project closeout.
- At any given time could be involved in combinations of:
- Mentoring others.
- Assist in marketing and business development activities as required.
- Acts as sponsor to ensure large projects are meeting expectations (safety, cost, schedule etc.)
Qualifications:- 5+ years of experience in electrical power utility construction, with underground distribution experience required.
- Strong estimating experience for underground electrical power utility work, including quantity takeoffs, labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, production rates, and project risk.
- Experience reviewing utility drawings, specifications, bid documents, and scopes of work for underground distribution construction.
- Working knowledge of underground duct banks, conduit, cable, vaults/manholes, trenching, excavation, backfill, restoration, and related electrical distribution systems.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects from estimating and bid preparation through construction, cost control, change management, and closeout.
