DescriptionLee County is seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative, and technically skilled professional to serve as a Project Manager within Facilities Construction & Management. This full-time role is essential to delivering Major Maintenance (MM) and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects that support the safety, functionality, and long-term resilience of county-owned facilities.
Working closely with architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, internal departments, and regulatory agencies, the Project Manager leads assigned projects from concept through construction closeout. The ideal candidate is an organized problem solver with strong communication skills, a solid technical foundation, and experience overseeing complex construction or renovation projects.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesWhat You Will DoProject Planning and Delivery- Manage the full lifecycle of assigned MM and CIP projects-from conceptual design and budgeting through final acceptance of construction.
- Coordinate project scope, schedules, and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Exercise independent judgment and technical expertise in solving project challenges.
- Oversee project documentation, including plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents.
Construction Oversight and Compliance- Monitor construction progress through site visits, meetings, and inspections to verify quality, safety, and compliance with Florida Building Code, Life Safety, ADA, and all applicable standards.
- Review contractor submittals, change orders, and invoices; ensure adherence to contract requirements.
- Identify and address project risks such as delays, cost impacts, and compliance issues, recommending corrective actions as needed.
- Coordinate with local and state agencies to secure permits, approvals, and regulatory compliance.
Stakeholder Coordination and Team Leadership- Serve as a primary point of contact for internal departments, consultants, and contractors throughout project development and construction.
- Lead and mentor staff assisting on assigned projects and evaluate performance.
- Facilitate design reviews, progress meetings, and project updates for leadership.
- Prepare clear, accurate reports summarizing project status, issues, and recommendations.
Education, Experience, LicensingWhat We're Looking ForMinimum RequirementsAny combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the required degree and experience may be considered.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, or Structural Engineering; Architecture; Interior Design; or a closely related field.
- Two years of relevant professional experience in engineering, architecture, or construction project management.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass an NCIC background check and obtain fingerprint-based security clearance through the Lee County Sheriff's Office and the State Attorney's Office.
Preferred Qualifications- Professional Engineer (PE), Registered Architect (RA), or similar professional licensure.
- Experience managing building renovation or construction projects for public agencies or large institutions.
- Working knowledge of contract administration, plan review, and construction documentation.
Knowledge & Skills- Strong understanding of engineering principles, architectural concepts, capital improvement processes, and construction management best practices.
- Ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, and technical reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related project management software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for working with contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
Supplemental InformationWork Schedule- Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM.
Work EnvironmentThis position involves periodic on-site inspections at various county facilities and coordination with multiple internal and external partners. Professional certifications may be required at hire or within an approved timeframe.

This position requires ability to undergo a fingerprint based NCIC background check, and to obtain security clearances from the Lee County Sheriff's Office and the State's Attorney Office in addition to the standard Consumer Report based background check that is required for conditional offers of employment.
