Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a skilled Project Manager for Bus and Bus Rapid Transit Projects to join our mobility team. The Project Manager will lead planning, design, and delivery of bus rapid transit (BRT) corridors, bus transit facility improvements, bus technology deployments, and other transit capital and operating projects throughout the United States. This role is responsible for developing and managing scopes, schedules, budgets, risk registers, and contracts. The Project Manager will also manage internal project teams and subconsultants working across multiple disciplines including transit planning, civil engineering, architecture, environmental review, traffic engineering, and public engagement. The ideal candidate will have experience interacting with multiple levels of transportation agencies and excel at delivering projects that meet organizational goals. Experience managing projects at or with a transit agency and an understanding of the unique operational, safety, and regulatory requirements of working in active transit environments is also desirable. Candidates will routinely engage and strengthen relationships with clients throughout project delivery and participate in marketing activities.

Role can be located in Atlanta, GA; Nashville, TN; Washington, D.C; Chicago, IL; Seattle, WA; San Diego, CA. Candidates will have the ability to work a hybrid schedule but will be required to attend internal and external client meetings in person as needed. The role includes significant travel of 25-50% to project sites.

Role accountabilities:
  • Lead end-to-end project management for bus transit capital projects including bus facility improvements, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors, and bus technology deployment projects across the country.
  • Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, and risk registers for projects, programs, and proposals.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, planners, operations staff, construction teams, and third-party stakeholders on conceptual planning, alternatives analysis, preliminary design, design, and implementation of projects.
  • Ensure alignment with organizational goals and funding requirements.
  • Oversee design development, permitting, procurement, and construction phases; ensure compliance with contract documents and regulatory standards.
  • Facilitate project meetings, prepare status reports, and maintain accurate documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, resolve issues proactively, and maintain clear communication channels across all teams.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, including FTA requirements when applicable.
  • Support community outreach, public engagement, and coordination with local jurisdictions as needed.
  • Manage consultant and contactor performance, including review of deliverables, change orders, and claims.
  • Coordinate and interface with clients to discuss technical elements of the project and present results.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior planners, engineers and interns in areas of technical proficiency and consultancy.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Urban Planning, Project Management, Construction Management, Architecture or related field.
  • 8+years of relevant work experience post undergraduate degree, including 3 years of demonstrated management of transit projects.
  • Familiarity with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements as they related to transit projects.
  • Familiarity with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Capital Investment Grant (CIG) Program requirements.
  • Ability to work well in groups as well as independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail is critical in the success of this position.
  • Must possess a US Driver's license.

Preferred Skills and Proficiencies:
  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or Urban Planning.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License in state of residence and/or American Planning Association (APA) Certification.
  • Strong understanding of transit operations and experience working at a transit agency or as a consultant for transit agencies.
  • Proficiency with project management software (e.g. MS Project, Primavera, Bluebeam).
  • Design experience and familiarity with local transit and/or roadway design standards.
  • Understanding of design software packages (e.g. MicroStation, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, and/or AutoCAD) and traffic analysis tools (VISSIM, Sidra, Synchro/SimTraffic, and HCS).
  • Understanding of traffic operations principles including ITE, MUTCD, AASHTO, and state DOT requirements, policies, manuals and procedures.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $87,912.00 - $158,242.00. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
