Job Description:Binghamton University invites applications for a strategic, highly organized Project Manager to lead the operational launch and development of the newly established Center for AI Responsibility and Research (CAIRR), a landmark campus initiative supported by a $55 million investment. Reporting directly to the Center Director, the Project Manager serves as an operational leader responsible for translating CAIRR's vision into action and building a nationally recognized hub for responsible AI research, interdisciplinary education, cross-sector innovation, and public engagement. Working collaboratively with faculty, executive leadership, and external partners, the incumbent will execute strategic priorities, establish long-term operational infrastructure, and manage project schedules, performance metrics, and executive briefings.
Key Responsibilities:- Oversees the operational lifecycle of Center initiatives by coordinating complex projects across academic colleges and administrative units.
- Facilitates multidisciplinary research teams and large-scale proposal development for federal agencies, monitoring global funding opportunities, and tracking research outcomes.
- Cultivates strategic alliances across industry, government, national laboratories, foundations, and global academic institutions while supporting advisory board operations.
- Directs CAIRR's high-profile convenings - including its inaugural symposium.
- Oversees communications, media outreach, and community engagement to elevate the Center's national profile.
Requirements: - Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Proven track record of supporting large-scale multidisciplinary research centers or complex institutional projects.
- Direct familiarity with federal research funding agencies (e.g., NSF, NIH, DoD, DOE).
- Hands-on experience facilitating large proposal development, and demonstrated success cultivating strategic partnerships across industry and government.
- Superior interpersonal and executive communication skills are essential, alongside diplomacy, sound judgment, and the ability to engage effectively with senior leaders, faculty, and donors.
Preferred Qualifications:- A Master's degree in Public Administration, Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Public Policy, or Higher Education Administration.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification - or an equivalent formal project management credential.
- Professional familiarity with artificial intelligence, machine learning, computing, or emerging technology landscapes.
- Specialized experience in strategic communications, public engagement, or government relations.
Additional Information:Salary range: $120,000 - $140,000 annually commensurate with experience. This is a one year, renewable grant-funded position. Note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
