WHAT WILL YOU DO?Cambium is looking for a Project Manager to join our Integrated Management - Waste Resources Management team. Your primary focus will be managing a portfolio of municipal waste management clients and projects, including annual environmental monitoring and reporting, regulatory compliance, operational support, and liaison with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP).
Your work will also extend beyond municipal waste facilities. You will have opportunities to support private-sector clients, waste management planning and approvals, and long-term environmental monitoring of contaminated properties, including sites managed under Ontario Regulation 153/04.
Working with Cambium's multidisciplinary team, you will coordinate technical programs, project teams, budgets, schedules, regulatory requirements, and client communication to deliver practical and defensible environmental solutions.
JOB DUTIES- Manage a portfolio of municipal waste management clients and projects, serving as a key contact for project delivery, regulatory compliance, and operational support.
- Plan and oversee long-term environmental monitoring programs, including groundwater, surface water, landfill gas, leachate, and contaminated-site monitoring.
- Coordinate field programs, laboratory services, data interpretation, technical assessments, and preparation of annual and regulatory reports.
- Liaise with clients and the MECP regarding approvals, monitoring requirements, compliance matters, regulatory comments, and technical submissions.
- Manage waste management projects involving landfills, transfer stations, composting facilities, waste diversion, operational planning, Environmental Compliance Approvals, and other regulatory requirements.
- Support municipal and private-sector clients with waste management planning, environmental compliance, approvals, and related technical assignments.
- Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, invoicing, resources, subcontractors, and overall financial performance.
- Coordinate and review the work of multidisciplinary project teams to ensure deliverables are technically sound, practical, and completed on schedule.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to proposals, client development, and growth of Cambium's waste and environmental services.
- Mentor and support junior staff and promote Cambium's quality and health and safety expectations.
- Attend project sites and client, municipal, and regulatory meetings as required.
QUALIFICATIONS- Post-secondary degree or diploma in environmental science, engineering, geoscience, hydrogeology, or a related discipline.
- Ten or more years of relevant environmental consulting, municipal waste management, or regulatory compliance experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects for municipal clients, preferably involving landfills, transfer stations, waste management facilities, or other regulated environmental infrastructure.
- Experience planning, coordinating, reviewing, or completing annual groundwater, surface water, landfill gas, leachate, or environmental compliance monitoring programs.
- Knowledge of Ontario's waste management and environmental regulatory framework, including experience working with Environmental Compliance Approvals and MECP requirements.
- Experience preparing or reviewing annual monitoring reports, hydrogeological assessments, surface water assessments, compliance reports, operational plans, or regulatory submissions.
- Experience communicating with municipal staff, regulators, technical specialists, contractors, laboratories, and other project stakeholders.
- Strong project-management skills, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, resource coordination, invoicing, and financial performance management.
- Strong technical writing and review skills, with the ability to present complex scientific and regulatory information clearly and practically.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple recurring assignments and regulatory deadlines.
- Sound judgment, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Ability to work independently while effectively leading and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and familiarity with environmental data-management, reporting, or sector-specific software.
- Eligibility for, or current registration as, a Professional Geoscientist with Professional Geoscientists Ontario or a Professional Engineer with Professional Engineers Ontario is considered an asset.
- Ability and willingness to travel to municipal facilities, project sites, client offices, and regulatory meetings as required.
- The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills with fluency (reading, writing and oral) in English.
- Valid Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
