Position:Project Manager (Battery Energy Storage Systems)

POSITION SUMMARY

Barton Malow is seeking a Project Manager for a battery energy storage system project in Newport, MI. This individual must be open to travel and commit to working on the project site full-time. The Project Manager will be responsible for the overall successful delivery of the assigned project, working collaboratively with the project team, client, trade partners, vendors, and other stakeholders. This role involves managing project scope, budget, schedule, contracts, procurement, risk, quality, and client relationships while ensuring the project is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contractual requirements.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides overall leadership and direction for the project team, establishing clear project objectives, priorities, responsibilities, and expectations.
  • Leads the development and execution of project plans, including project scope, schedule, budget, procurement, logistics, quality, safety, and risk management strategies.
  • Assists in developing work scopes and front-end documents for bidding to ensure clarity and alignment with project requirements; participates in the bid process, including post-bid interviews, bidder questions, and contractor selection.
  • Manages the project budget, cost reporting, forecasting, and financial performance, identifying potential cost impacts and developing strategies to maintain project profitability.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and manages subcontractor and vendor contracts, including scope alignment, commercial terms, performance, and compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Leads the change management process, including identifying, documenting, pricing, negotiating, and tracking changes, claims, and potential impacts to the project.
  • Develops and maintains the project baseline schedule in collaboration with the project team and trade partners, monitoring progress and identifying potential schedule risks and recovery strategies.
  • Oversees project procurement activities, including material and equipment requirements, long-lead items, vendor coordination, and delivery schedules to support project milestones.
  • Establishes and maintains project controls and reporting processes to monitor cost, schedule, scope, quality, and overall project performance.
  • Coordinates with the Superintendent and field leadership to ensure site activities are aligned with the project schedule, contract requirements, site logistics plan, and overall project objectives.
  • Provides leadership in project planning and pull-planning efforts, utilizing look-ahead schedules and progress reporting to identify constraints and maintain project momentum.
  • Ensures project safety, quality, and environmental requirements are incorporated into project planning and execution in partnership with field leadership and project safety personnel.
  • Manages communication and relationships with the client, design team, subcontractors, vendors, authorities having jurisdiction, and other key stakeholders.
  • Leads project meetings, including owner, subcontractor, and internal project meetings, and ensures action items, decisions, and commitments are documented and followed through.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and proactively manages project risks, developing mitigation strategies and communicating significant risks to project leadership.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, business, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant industrial construction and energy experience, with demonstrated experience managing complex construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, project delivery methods, commercial terms, and applicable legal provisions.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, cost forecasting, schedules, change management, procurement, and project controls.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple project priorities and maintain accountability for project deliverables.
  • Ability to anticipate project challenges, evaluate risk, and develop practical and effective solutions.
  • Ability to manage and embrace change, adapting to new processes, technologies, and perspectives while effectively addressing traditional project challenges.
  • Strong negotiation and decision-making skills, with the ability to effectively manage subcontractor, vendor, and client relationships.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and align multidisciplinary project teams toward common project objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, senior leadership, project teams, trade partners, and other stakeholders.
