Full Job Description
RK&K is hiring a Water/Wastewater Project Engineer to join our Environmental team in our Virginia Beach, Newport News, or Richmond VA office. In this role, you will work closely with project managers and other team members in performing preliminary engineering evaluations, design, and construction services on a variety of municipal engineering projects improving water and wastewater infrastructure.

Essential Function
  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and costs estimates for water and wastewater projects
  • Conduct technical evaluations to support planning and design related to water and wastewater systems
  • Preparation and review of technical memoranda, engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents
  • Direct and assist with the development of project staff and collaboration with subconsultants
  • Facilitate internal and client meetings, presentations and approval of plans
  • Participate in community outreach tasks
  • Support field testing and investigations
  • Manage construction projects with office engineering services (submittal review, contract document interpretation, requests for information, correspondence, change requests, change orders, site visits and coordination with inspection personnel)
  • Provide construction inspection and administration of water/wastewater pipeline, pumping, storage and treatment facility construction projects.
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with clients, project teams including other engineering disciplines, designers and subconsultants

Required Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related engineering field
  • Engineering in Training Certificate
  • 4+ years of increasingly responsible, project experience in the study, design, and construction administration and inspection of water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure (pipelines, pump stations, treatment)
  • A self-starter, versatile and interested in working on a variety of projects supporting the Water and Wastewater Group
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills
  • A solution minded individual with an appetite for problem solving
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the documentation, organization and presentation of project data
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Professional Suite including Word, Outlook, Project, Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and REVIT is desirable
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License or the ability to obtain
