Job Description

As a Production Technical Sculptor - Digital, you will lead the development of high-quality digital surfaces that translate vehicle design intent into production-feasible solutions. You will serve as a senior technical resource across vehicle programs, partnering with design, engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams. This role combines advanced digital sculpting, surface quality, technical problem-solving, and program leadership to support accelerated vehicle development. You will influence technical direction, resolve complex issues, and advance efficient methods and workflows for the sculpting organization.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the development and refinement of NURBS for complex vehicle interior and exterior components.

  • Translate design themes, sketches, and engineering requirements into accurate, production-feasible digital surfaces.

  • Evaluate surface quality, continuity, highlights, and feasibility; provide technical direction on complex surface issues.

  • Lead collaboration with design, engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams to resolve surface and integration issues.

  • Own surface development data and releases for reviews, development milestones, and downstream processes.

  • Communicate technical recommendations, risks, timing, and tradeoffs to program stakeholders and Sculpting Leadership.

  • Mentor sculptors, support program execution, and advance GM Global Design standards, best practices, technologies, and workflows.

  • Bachelors degree in transportation design, industrial design, mechanical engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

  • 5 or more years of experience in automotive digital sculpting, surface development, or a related discipline.

  • Advanced proficiency with Alias, NX, or comparable NURBS-based digital modeling tools.

  • Advanced knowledge of surface evaluation, design intent interpretation, production feasibility, and surface quality standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional technical problem-solving and deliver work to accelerated program milestones.

  • Strong oral, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to varied audiences.

  • Ability to mentor others and lead program execution when assigned by Sculpting Leadership.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)0

  • Experience developing automotive interior or exterior surfaces through production.

  • Experience with Teamcenter or comparable product data management systems.

  • Knowledge of automotive product development processes, GVDP modeling standards, surface quality standards, and manufacturing considerations.

  • Experience leading multiple vehicle programs or implementing modeling processes, technical best practices, workflows, or new digital sculpting technologies.
