The Product Design Engineer’s responsibilities are to utilize fundamental engineering strategies to design and validate new trailer products. This role will work closely with the Sales, Operations, Design, and Supply Chain teams to design, document, source, and build both clean sheet trailer designs and trailer components. The candidate will also interact with key vendors and customers directly. The successful candidate will have experience prioritizing and supporting changing design requirements in a dynamic product development process and have strong program management experience. Major responsibility for the Product Design Engineer will be analyzing, modeling, and drafting new components utilizing the engineering CAE suite (Siemens NX and ANSYS) from start to finish in conjunction with building and testing physical samples.

  • Represent the Design Engineering Team with professionalism and integrity when communicating with the customer, cross functional teams, as well as the entire organization.
  • Research, develop, design, and test mechanical parts, components, and assemblies needed for prototypes and final products. Assist in developing and implementing design procedures.
  • Assist in all functions required to generate Bills of Materials and process ECR’s /ECNs for product requirements.
  • Focus on developing and implementing cost saving ideas including research, selection, and validation of outsourced products.
  • Support manufacturing floor through lean manufacturing events as well as sales and purchasing functions as required.
  • Assist in warranty analysis to improve existing products by analyzing and finding root cause and designing solutions to address field issues.
  • Work toward developing overall Leadership responsibility for the design team; that could include engineers, designers, and draftsman.
  • Design and implement commercial trailers to drive company’s success and growth.

  • Strong mechanical engineering skillset in strength of materials, stress analysis, fatigue life, welding
  • Experience in Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen Continuous Improvement, VA/VE Projects
  • The selected engineer will have a high level of self-initiative, with an ability to plan, manage tasks, conceptualize, and implement ideas with minimal supervision.

Education and/or experience:

  • Minimum education of Bachelors of Science Degree: Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience, preferably in trailer, heavy equipment, or OEM transportation industry
  • Demonstrated efficiency in computer software including Siemens NX, ANSYS, Microsoft Office, Epicor ERP or similar system experience.
