The Opportunity:In this position, you will direct and coordinate the full risk control effort including process safety engineering and loss prevention activities. The principal area of focus is on Process Safety Management through, the assessment of technical, engineering, and business risks to protect against losses. The successful candidate will interface closely with multi-disciplinary engineers, project teams and operational representatives.
Key Accountabilities:- Provide day-to-day support to engineering and operating teams in process safety management and/or fire protection engineering
- Categorize process safety events in hazardous classifications by calculating discharges
- Lead, facilitate and/or participate in process hazard analysis, such as Hazops, What-If, Operational Risk Assessment, etc.
- Assist with hazard identification and mitigation of operational process risks to identify as low as reasonably practicable safeguards
- Lead, facilitate and/or participate root cause investigations on process safety events, develop recommendations to improve the process safety in our operations and mitigate future incidents
- Deliver technical safety engineering expertise to meet company's process safety and fire protection standards as well as standard industry practice (e.g. API, NFPA, CSA)
- Support and promote the Process Safety culture at in Oilsands operations.
- Analyze lagging indicators on Process Safety Events, identify trends and develop solutions to mitigate future incidents

- Shift schedule: Monday-Friday, office based
Skills & Qualifications:- Minimum 10 years of Operation/Process experience required
- Experience in the petroleum industry in an engineering design and/or operations capacity
- Process Safety Engineering experience preferred
- Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering background would be an asset; not necessarily required
- Registration or eligibility to register with APEGA (preferred)
