A Day in the Life and the Impact You'll Make:

The Process Hazard Analysis Facilitator (PHA Facilitator) provides technical services and guidance to support Process Safety improvement activities globally (with a focus on USA and Canada) to clients in various industries. Position involves professional work in research, development, design, operation, evaluation, and improvement of chemical processes, plants, equipment, methods, or products with a primary emphasis in the areas of facilitating Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs). Provide recommendations for appropriate practical improvements, recommend testing (when needed), and assist clients in the interpretation and application of technical information applicable to their processing needs.

What You'll Do:
  • Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment by actively participating, taking responsibility, and following established procedures and policies.
  • Primary responsibility will be to provide Process Hazard Analysis studies support which includes
    • Prepare, facilitate, and scribe PHA studies through a variety of methodologies (What-If, Checklist, FMEA, HAZOP, HAZID, etc.) and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
    • Selecting the PHA methodology based on the complexity of the process and hazards involved.
    • Ensure PHA scenarios, consequences, safeguards, and recommendations are complete and correctly identified and captured in the PHA software (PHAPro or similar)
    • Write and review technical reports.
    • Read and interpret piping and instrumentation drawings (P&ID), mechanical drawings, process flow diagrams, block flow diagrams, electrical line diagram etc.
    • Understand and comply with DEKRA and client procedures.
    • Ability to conduct PHAs and/or training in person as well as virtual
  • Effective and continued communication with clients and consulting team.
  • Able to work with a team on projects and independently on projects or tasks.
  • Perform technical reviews for peers which could include marketing papers, presentations, reports, etc.
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
  • Be client-facing, having a proven record of building and maintaining positive and professional client relationships.

What You'll Bring:
  • BS (or Higher) in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or Fire Protection) or other safety related field
  • Formal training in various PHA methodologies and LOPA is desired with a minimum experience of 5 years. Experience in facilitating PHAs in the Oil & Gas Industry is preferred.
  • Safety-related designation preferred (CSP, CFEI, CCPSC, PE, etc.)
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in process safety management
  • Experience and strong knowledge in safety-related areas (PSM, RMP, combustible dust, chemical reaction hazards, flammable liquids/gases, etc.) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety standards and regulations (NFPA, Building & Fire Codes, OSHA, etc.) is preferred.
  • Strong personal communications and leadership skills
  • Must be able to work well under pressure within a team environment
  • Must deliver reports and analysis documents within time-driven deadlines

Physical Considerations:
  • Must be able to work in a variety of client locations, environments, and conditions. This may include climbing stairs, walking long distances, walking on rough and uneven terrain, walking through client work facilities, working in heat/cold conditions, indoors and outdoors.
  • Must be able to accommodate working during various shifts as client activities are scheduled.
  • Must be able to withstand the rigors of extensive travel.
  • May require difficult travel and long periods of driving.
  • Ability to move and conduct work with full range of motion.
  • Ability to lift 25-50lbs (luggage)
  • Extended periods of computer-based work
  • Extended periods of standing

Required Travel:
  • Position requires travel, up to 50%, and may require international travel.

Compensation:

DEKRA North America's compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets The base pay for this position ranges from $75,000 annually in our lowest geographic market up to $120,000 annually in our highest geographic market. Actual pay is based on several factors including market location and position-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
