Overview

The Process Engineer supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of chemical process units by assisting with technical stewardship activities, process monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role helps ensure that unit operations align with established technology standards, supports process safety requirements, and aids in maintaining longterm asset health and performance. The Process Engineer works closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and ESHA teams to drive consistency, reliability, and technical excellence.

Responsibilities

Technology Stewardship & Process Monitoring

  • Support daytoday monitoring of unit performance to identify trends, emerging issues, and optimization opportunities.

  • Assist in maintaining technology standards, procedures, and documentation to ensure alignment with site and corporate expectations.

  • Help track and communicate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as energy efficiency, raw material usage, and equipment utilization.

Process Safety & Compliance

  • Assist in the Management of Change (MOC) process by leading the process and/or helping prepare documentation ensuring changes are communicated effectively.

  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) sessions and followup activities to support hazard identification and risk reduction.

  • Support closure of prestartup and poststartup action items for MOCs.

  • Collaborate with ESHA personnel to monitor environmental metrics, emissions, and release performance.

Reliability & Continuous Improvement

  • Support reliability efforts by helping investigate operational issues and contributing to root cause analysis activities.

  • Assist with tracking and documenting reliability concerns, stewardship gaps, and improvement opportunities.

  • Participate in Lean methodology and continuous improvement initiatives within the unit.

Operations & Troubleshooting Support

  • Provide basic troubleshooting assistance to operators to address process or equipment deviations.

  • Help review Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and maintain accurate technical documentation.

  • Support unit optimization efforts under guidance from senior engineers and technology leaders.

Outage & Project Support

  • Assist in coordinating maintenance and project activities during outages to ensure technical requirements are addressed.

  • Help monitor utility availability during outages to minimize potential production impacts.

  • Support capital project planning and contribute to field execution tasks as needed.

Technical Tools & Analysis

  • Use software such as PIProcessBook, Minitab, and Aspen Plus (training provided) to analyze process data and support engineering studies.

  • Help generate and maintain technical reports, data summaries, and documentation related to unit performance and stewardship.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering. Equivalent international degrees will be considered.
  • 2 years of experience in process engineering, manufacturing engineering, chemical engineering, or related engineering role, including:
    • Monitoring unit performance and developing solutions to improve operational efficiency and reliability.
    • Supporting and implementing improvement plans to address performance gaps.
    • Leading or participating in root cause analyses related to process stewardship, reliability, and operational issues.
    • Reading, interpreting, and modifying Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
    • Utilizing engineering and data analysis tools such as Minitab, PI ProcessBook, Aspen Plus, or similar software applications.
