Full Job Description
Orchid Insurance, an Arrowhead Intermediaries company, is seeking a Private Client Lead Underwriter to join our growing team in Tampa, FL.

The Private Client Lead Underwriter is responsible for establishing and growing a specialty underwriting practice focused on high value and ultra-high value homes. This role serves as the initial and primary underwriter for assigned lines, with full accountability for production, underwriting quality, profitability, carrier relationships, broker relationships, and retail agent relationships. This position combines hands-on underwriting execution with business development, market engagement, risk engineering and strategic growth. The Private Client Lead Underwriter will be responsible for hiring and leading an underwriting team to support sustained and profitable expansion.

How You Will Contribute:
  • Serve as the primary underwriter for assigned specialty product(s), including reviewing submissions, evaluating risk, negotiating terms, issuing quotes, binding coverage, and servicing policies.
  • Develop and manage strong relationships with retail and wholesale agents, brokers, and carrier partners.
  • Coordinate directly with external brokers and markets, including Lloyd's and other specialty carriers.
  • Own underwriting results including premium growth, retention, and profitability.
  • Partner with leadership to establish production and profitability goals.
  • Ensure adherence to carrier guidelines and Orchid underwriting best practices.
  • Monitor market conditions and underwriting trends.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Programs, Sales/Marketing, Operations, and Leadership.
  • Travel as needed to meet brokers, agents, and carrier partners, including occasional international travel.
  • Build and lead a specialty underwriting team as the business grows.


Skills & Experience to Be Successful:

Required:
  • Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience, including specialty, broker placement-based property and high value properties.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the full underwriting lifecycle independently.
  • Demonstrated understanding, knowledge and experience in CAT exposed property lines of business, including risk models and pricing analytics
  • Strong broker-facing communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated business and financial acumen.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with comfort building a new underwriting practice.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally, including international travel.
  • This position requires routine travel which may require the teammate to drive their own vehicle or a rental vehicle. Acceptable results of a Motor Vehicle Report at the time of hire and periodically thereafter, and maintenance of minimum acceptable insurance coverages are a requirement of this position.
  • Possess or acquire and maintain a FL 2-20 insurance license or the equivalent as required by FL state. Non-resident Florida teammates must possess or acquire and maintain the non-Florida resident state equivalent Property & Casualty license.
