About The Opportunity
As a Principal Technical Program Manager, you’ll shape how our product and engineering organization plans, delivers, and measures its work. You’ll partner directly with directors and senior leaders to keep a broad portfolio of programs healthy, and you’ll be the person called on when a cross-functional challenge needs someone with the judgment and influence to resolve it. You’ll define the milestones and success measures for our most complex initiatives, make high-quality decisions under uncertainty, and build the frameworks and mechanisms that make every team around you more effective. You’ll be a trusted voice from the engineering floor to the executive level, translating technical risk into clear business decisions
The Impact You'll Make:
- Own delivery health across a group: Ensure the health of programs and initiatives across multiple product engineering teams, partnering with leadership to keep the portfolio on track. Independently define milestones and success measures, secure buy-in, and set work in motion, with plans that extend a year or more.
- Set how programs are run: Design, evolve, and champion the planning, delivery, and operating-cadence standards that teams across the group adopt, such as quarterly planning, WBRs/MBRs, and risk and dependency management. Partner with leaders to make sure these processes serve both efficiency and strategic goals.
- Solve systemic problems: Look across organizational boundaries to find recurring bottlenecks and opportunity areas, then build durable, scalable mechanisms that fix them for good rather than program by program. Seek out synergies and integration between teams and processes.
- Influence scope and priorities: Shape scope and prioritization decisions across the group, grounding tradeoffs in delivery data and business impact. Partner with engineering leadership on decisions where technical strategy and program delivery meet.
- Communicate with executives: Communicate vision, strategy, and status to senior and C-level stakeholders while staying close enough to the detail to resolve issues. Translate complex technical risks into clear, actionable business decisions.
- Lead through influence: Coordinate across multiple teams, departments, and levels of leadership, aligning stakeholders on bold or high-risk directions and navigating complex stakeholder dynamics with empathy.
- Raise the bar for the craft: Mentor and coach TPMs and other leaders, shape how delivery is tracked, measured, and reported (including the use of AI-assisted tooling), and promote a culture of high performance, accountability, and candid, constructive feedback.
What You Bring to the Table:
- 6-8 years of technical program management experience, or comparable experience, including leading programs and processes across multiple teams or a full product engineering group. Experience in the tech or food delivery industry is preferred.
- Strong technical fluency, enough to engage credibly with engineering leaders on tradeoffs, pressure-test estimates and dependencies, and understand what technical decisions mean for scope, sequencing, and risk. Demonstrated experience of leveraging AI tools to increase velocity and quality, as well as hands-on experience tools like Jellyfish, Jira, SQL, BigQuery, Datadog, and Redash. The data literacy to connect delivery data to business outcomes and to tell signal from noise, including in AI-generated analysis.
- A track record of independently defining goals, milestones, and success measures for large, ambiguous, multi-quarter initiatives, and driving them to completion without needing a manager’s framing.
- Demonstrated success building and rolling out planning or delivery frameworks that were adopted across a group or organization, not just within a single program.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to executive audiences and tailoring language and level of detail to the audience.
- Proven ability to influence without authority and build trust with directors and senior leaders, and to navigate complex stakeholder environments.
- Experience mentoring other TPMs or program managers and setting the standard for the craft.
- Strong judgment in ambiguity, and the ability to identify opportunities to improve operating efficiency and implement solutions at scale.
