Northrop Grumman Defense Systems currently has an opening for a Principal Systems Engineer/Sr. Principal Systems Engineer. This position is located in Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel program. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force's sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.

What you will get to do:

The selected Principal Systems Engineer, as part of the Sentinel Logistics Support team, will be assigned to support the Logistics System Capability Thread. This role provides a great growth opportunity for an individual interested in developing into a technical leadership role.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Collaborate with program IPT counterparts to develop rigorous and proper systems engineering and design artifacts.
  • Mange and optimize database for Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) tools.
  • Work with technical teams and stakeholders to develop and mature WS design of a large program.
  • Help develop and incorporate the appropriate requirements for the system and ensure that they are properly represented in the model.
  • Contribute to system requirements development, management, and analysis.
  • Develop unifying model techniques, procedures, and processes (for model development, tool integration, and team integration)
  • Manage program governance and assist subject matter experts in the development of program compliance documents.


This requisition may be filled at either the Principal Systems Engineer level (T-03) or Sr Principal Systems Engineer level (T-04).

Principal Systems Engineer:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 5 years of related experience, 3 years with Masters, 1 year with PhD.
  • 1+ year experience in team environments with technical leadership responsibilities
  • 2+ years' experience in Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) (Minuteman III (MMIII) or Sentinel) OR complex aerospace/defense systems.
  • 2+ years' experience in developing and executing Systems Engineering (SE) process governance documentation in a Department of Defense (DoD) Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase.
  • 2+ years' experience in creating, updating, and maintaining requirements specifications in Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS).


Sr Principal Engineer Systems:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university with 8 years of related experience, 6 years with Masters, 4 years with PhD.
  • 3+ years' experience in team environments with technical leadership responsibilities.
  • 5+ years' experience in ICMBs (MMIII or Sentinel) OR complex aerospace/defense systems.
  • 5+ years' experience in developing and executing SE process governance documentation in a DoD EMD phase.
  • 5+ years' experience in creating, updating, and maintaining requirements specifications in DOORS.


Required for Both Levels:
  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years
  • 2+ years' experience in ICBM (MMIII or Sentinel) OR complex aerospace/defense systems.
  • 2+ years' experience in developing and executing Systems Engineering process governance documentation in a DoD Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase.
  • 1+ years' experience in team environments with technical leadership responsibilities.
  • 2+ years' experience in creating, updating, and maintaining requirements specifications in DOORS.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • ICBM Experience (MMIII or Sentinel).
  • Experience with Agile, JIRA, Confluence.
  • Proficiency in DOORS including DXL scripting
  • 3+ years' experience writing requirements and/or verification plans.
  • Capable of working with minimal direction and in team environments.
  • Experience working with internal and external teams to accomplish tasking.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities.

This position's standard work schedule is 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
