Role description
Principal Information Architect
The Role
The Principal Information Architect is the enterprise-level technical authority for the HR and Corporate Real Estate (CRE) analytics data estate, owning the architecture from upstream authoritative source systems through to certified data products published in Microsoft Fabric.
What You'll Do
• This role sets the multi-year information architecture direction for both domains, defines the integration contracts with source-system owners, owns the conceptual, logical, and physical data models, governs the business glossary and master data, and is accountable for securing sensitive HR and CRE data by design, including GDPR compliance, governance, access controls, and encryption.
• This role also sets the engineering quality bar that every pipeline and data product is built against.
• The Principal Information Architect is a hands-on technical leader who designs the systems, leads design reviews, contributes directly to the most complex builds, and resolves the hardest engineering problems across the platform.
• This is a delivery-adjacent engineering leadership role that moves fast, makes real decisions, and directly shapes the quality of what ships to HR and CRE business stakeholders.
This position description identifies the responsibilities and tasks typically associated with the performance of the position. Other relevant essential functions may be required.
What You Need
• 12+ years of data engineering, data architecture, or data platform engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a Sr Architect, principal engineer, or technical lead capacity across large-scale enterprise data platforms.
• Demonstrated experience owning end-to-end information architecture, including conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling, for an enterprise analytics domain, with explicit responsibility for business glossary alignment and semantic consistency.
• Experience with master data management and reference data, and a record of independently defining and driving end-to-end solutions from open-ended business problems.
• Proven experience defining integration contracts with upstream source-system owners, including schema agreements, SLA commitments, CDC patterns, and change management protocols.
• Deep expertise in Databricks, including Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Databricks Workflows, Structured Streaming, and performance tuning at scale.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, including OneLake, Fabric Data Engineering, and Fabric IQ semantic layer design, with a track record of publishing certified data products to Fabric for downstream business consumption.
• Expert-level experience designing and implementing streaming and near-real-time architectures using Kafka, Azure Event Hub, Delta Live Tables, or comparable technologies.
• Strong proficiency in SQL, PySpark, Spark SQL, and Python for distributed data transformation, pipeline architecture, and hands-on contributions to complex builds.
• Proven ability to design and enforce engineering standards across a data engineering organization, including pattern libraries, code review practices, and architectural governance.
• Experience architecting ingestion pipelines from enterprise systems of record (Workday, ServiceNow, ERP, or comparable platforms) at scale, with strong familiarity with CDC patterns and tools.
• Proven, hands-on experience architecting data platforms that hold sensitive or regulated data, including GDPR compliance (data subject rights, retention and deletion, purpose limitation, cross-border transfer controls), with a record of resolving real privacy, compliance, and security obstacles to delivery.
• Deep expertise in access control design for analytics, including RBAC and ABAC, row-level and column-level security, dynamic masking, and segregation of duties, implemented in Unity Catalog, Fabric, and Power BI.
