The Opportunity:

Our client, a manufacturing organization in the GTA, is currently looking for an experienced Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise within a highly specialized power quality engineering environment. This is a senior-level technical role for an accomplished engineer who can solve complex problems, mentor engineering teams, influence technical standards, and provide guidance across the organization.

The Principal Engineer will serve as a key technical resource for engineering, manufacturing, sales, customers, suppliers, and industry partners. This individual will play an important role throughout the quote, design, order development, manufacturing, and continuous improvement processes while ensuring products and engineering practices remain aligned with applicable industry standards.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Serve as a senior technical authority and subject matter expert within the engineering organization.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior, senior, and lead engineers.
  • Analyze and solve complex or unprecedented engineering challenges related to power quality equipment and applications.
  • Participate in quote and order reviews, providing expert technical input on customer requirements, specifications, designs, and proposed solutions.
  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, sales/marketing, customers, suppliers, and regulatory organizations.
  • Review and approve customer approval drawings, manufacturing drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and other engineering documentation as required.
  • Support product engineering and design activities when additional technical expertise is required.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain engineering standards, guidelines, procedures, and best practices.
  • Ensure engineering practices and products remain compliant with applicable industry standards, including IEEE, UL, CSA, NEMA, NEC, ANSI, and others.
  • Maintain relationships with key engineers, suppliers, industry organizations, regulatory agencies, and standards groups.
  • Participate in industry standards activities and conferences to remain current on evolving technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Subject Matter Experts to develop practical solutions for complex technical specifications and applications.
  • Support research and development initiatives and new product development activities.
  • Analyze manufacturing processes and collaborate with manufacturing teams to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Lead and participate in cost-reduction and value-engineering initiatives.
  • Prepare and oversee technical reports, engineering analyses, statistical reports, and other documentation.
  • Act as a technical liaison between engineering, manufacturing, customers, and suppliers.
  • Support departmental performance objectives, backlog reporting, and other engineering or business metrics.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable ISO 9001:2015 standards and requirements.
What You'll Need to Be Successful:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related engineering discipline; advanced education is considered an asset.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng./PE) designation is preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, ideally within power quality, power electronics, transformers, harmonic filters, electrical equipment, or a related technical environment.
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior technical, Lead Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Engineering Manager capacity is preferred.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and experience mentoring and developing other engineers.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards, including IEEE, UL, CSA, NEMA, NEC, ANSI, and related requirements.
  • Exceptional complex problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex customer specifications and translate requirements into practical engineering solutions.
  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to produce clear engineering documentation and reports.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers, suppliers, manufacturing teams, senior leadership, and industry organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, negotiate, and provide authoritative technical recommendations.
  • Experience working with relevant engineering design, analysis, and documentation software.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and the relationship between engineering design and production.
  • Ability to balance high-level technical leadership with hands-on engineering and design support when required.
Compensation Range: $150,000 - $180,000
