Full Job Description
About the Role

As a Principal Precision Data Converter Design Engineer, you will serve as a technical authority in the architecture and design of high-resolution analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converter ICs. You will lead the development of precision data conversion solutions from concept through silicon validation, driving system-level performance across linearity, noise, and dynamic range. Your work will span multiple business units and directly influence ADI's leadership in precision measurement and data acquisition.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and lead system-level architecture of precision data converter ICs, encompassing ADC, DAC, reference, and signal-conditioning subsystems
  • Architect high-resolution ADC topologies - SAR, delta-sigma, and pipeline - optimizing for linearity, noise floor, and power efficiency
  • Lead design of precision DAC circuits including current-steering, R-2R, and segmented architectures for high-accuracy output generation
  • Drive calibration and trimming strategies for offset, gain, and linearity correction across temperature and supply variation
  • Lead architecture and design reviews, assessing trade-offs across resolution, speed, power, and area
  • Influence converter IP reuse strategies, design flows, and product roadmaps across multiple programs

Required Skills and Experience
  • MSEE with 10+ years of precision data converter IC design experience, or PhD with 8+ years (BSEE with equivalent depth considered)
  • Proven expertise in ADC architectures: SAR, delta-sigma, or pipeline, with demonstrated silicon results
  • Working experience with DAC architectures: current-steering, R-2R, segmented, or charge-redistribution topologies
  • Deep understanding of precision performance metrics: INL, DNL, SFDR, SNR, ENOB, THD, offset drift, and gain drift
  • Track record of leading converter designs from concept through tape-out, silicon validation, and production release
  • Deep understanding of CMOS process technologies, including device matching, noise mechanisms (thermal, flicker, quantization), and layout-dependent effects
  • Proficiency with Cadence IC design suite: Virtuoso, Spectre/APS, and AMS Designer
  • Excellent presentation, technical writing, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with digitally-assisted calibration techniques: background calibration, digital error correction, redundancy-based algorithms
  • Familiarity with high-speed converter design techniques including interleaving and time-interleaved ADC architectures
  • Experience with switched-capacitor circuit design and bootstrapped sampling techniques
  • Knowledge of digital interface protocols for data converters (SPI, LVDS, JESD204B/C)
  • Familiarity with oversampling and noise-shaping techniques for precision applications

Technical Scope
  • Full-chip precision converter architecture ownership from specification through silicon bring-up
  • Noise budgeting and signal integrity analysis spanning analog front-end through digital back-end
  • Design-for-manufacturing and yield optimization through Monte Carlo analysis and statistical design centering
  • Reliability assessment including electromigration, hot-carrier injection, and NBTI effects on matching-sensitive structures

Collaboration and Impact
  • Partner with applications, product definition, and systems engineering teams to translate precision measurement requirements into converter specifications
  • Evaluate new process capabilities and identify opportunities for improved matching, lower noise floors, and enhanced converter performance
  • Contribute to organizational knowledge through design reviews, converter IP development, and cross-team technical forums
