Baker Hughes has an opening for a Principal / Sr. Principal Engineer – Lower Completions in Houston, TX. The Lower Completions Engineering group provides product design and technical support for lower completion product line equipment worldwide. The Principal / Sr. Principal Mechanical Design Engineer is to assist the Wellbore Construction group in the development of new products, provide support for the existing products, and respond to operations/customer feasibility work.
As Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Executing a variety of engineering responsibilities for new, modified, and existing Lower Completions products that include ICDs, Sand Control Screens, Sand Control Packers and MST Systems and tools, and Barrier Valves.
- Performing design activities, including 3D CAD design, layouts, calculations, manufacturing drawings, tolerances studies
- Performing component and system analysis, identifying stress levels, design solutions, and technical risks
- Conducting product design reviews to iterate and improve product designs through continual collaboration
- Designing qualification testing fixtures and composing detailed test procedures
- Conducting and assisting in the assembly and lab testing of prototypes
- Drafting technical manual documentation of new products with review and approval of supervisor
- Providing technical assistance to worldwide field operations and plant personnel for new and existing products
- Assisting in project planning, creating development time and cost estimates.
- Managing the various design stages from concept development through product validation

To be successful in this role you will:
- Have a bachelor’s degree in engineering/engineering technology
- Have 10+ years of experience in design engineering or sustaining engineering
- Be able to work independently and as a member of a team
- Possess effective verbal and written communication skills
- Have 3D CAD software experience SolidWorks
- Be able to work “hands on” in a test lab facility and be able to lift up to 25 lbs. regularly
Desired Characteristics:
- Multiple years’ experience in the design of lower completions tools i.e.: ICDs, Screens, Barrier Valves, Sand Control Tools / Packers, etc.
- Understanding of basic oilfield practices and applications
- Experience with product design including stress calculations, tolerances studies
- Familiarity with qualification testing and test fixture design
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes/design for manufacturability
- Experience with SolidWorks
- Experience with Teamcenter PLM software
- FEA experience
- Familiarity with one or more of the following API standards - API 19AC, 19SS, 19V, 11D1, 19ICD
