As aPrincipal Engineer – Electric Motors, Electrification & Advanced Technology Group, you’ll be part of ourElectrification & Advanced Technology (E&AT)team working as ahybridemployee. You’ll get to:
- Lead advanced motor technology development through modeling, simulation, and proof-of-concept prototyping.
- Evaluate alternative motor technologies to existing Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) motors using motor and system modeling tools such as Ansys Maxwell, Motor-CAD, or equivalent software.
- Assess motor designs for thermal performance against defined requirements and recommend optimization opportunities.
- Build proof-of-concept prototypes, conduct testing, and prepare evaluation reports to support technology decisions.
- Collaborate with motor control, hardware, and battery teams to optimize electrical system performance across batteries, motor controllers, and motors used in Power Tools and Outdoor equipment.
- Partner with external motor and magnet suppliers, universities, and research institutes to strengthen the technology pipeline.
- Support the future direction of motor technologies for the Power Tools and Outdoor business units through technical analysis and cross-functional collaboration.

- A Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on electric motors and advanced controls.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in an industrial environment.
- Deep expertise in electromagnetic design, modeling, and optimization of low-voltage radial and axial brushless motors.
- Familiarity with motor manufacturing processes and sub-assemblies.
- Experience using motor and system modeling tools such as Ansys Maxwell, Motor-CAD, or equivalent software.
- Experience with model-based algorithm development using MATLAB/Simulink or Ansys Twin Builder is a plus.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, with a demonstrated ability to succeed in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

The Salary range for this position is $110,600.00 - $178,000.00
This is the lowest to highest annual full-time salary range we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.
