Job Summary

This is a very senior-level Electrical Design Engineer role serving as a technical leader within Insulet’s R&D organization. The position is responsible for guiding the design, development, and sustainment of complex, low-power RF-controlled wearable medical devices used in infusion pump systems. In addition to hands-on design responsibilities, this individual will provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering team members, driving best practices in circuit design, system integration, and verification.

Position Overview:

We seek an engaged thinker with exceptional communication skills who can independently pursue a variety of tasks as part of an interdisciplinary team. This team member will serve as an individual contributor on the R&D team, focused on the design, development, and test of the electronics in low power RF-controlled wearable medical devices for infusion pump systems. Execution to schedule with high quality deliverables is key to success.

Responsibilities:

• Oversees the design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems

• Creates schematics and circuit board layouts, overseeing fabrication and assembly of prototypes with outside vendors

• Applies principles of electronics and electrical design, including digital, analog, RF, and mixed signal systems

• Independently performs experiments, including development of test methods, measurement, and analysis

• Troubleshoots system design issues using systematic root cause analysis methods

• Provides resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems, focusing on data-driven decision making

• Presents concepts, analysis, and conclusions to stakeholders both technical and non-technical

• Mentors more junior engineers

• Act as subject matter expert in all EE related matters

• Creates and meets schedules for complex projects with cross-functional dependencies

• Performs other duties as required

Education and Experience:

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor Degree required (preferred field of study in: Electrical Engineering) and 10 years of relevant experience, or Master Degree and 8+ years of relevant experience

Preferred Skills and Competencies:   

• Analog, digital, and mixed signal circuit analysis, including custom integrated circuits and in-depth simulation (Monte-Carlo, etc)

• Advanced principles of design (Electromagnetic Compatibility, Electrostatic Discharge, RF)

• Bluetooth Low Energy design and test techniques

• Experience with FDA design controls and risk management guidelines

• Medical and/or wearable device design experience

• Ethical, responsible, and data-driven decision making methodology

• Self-starter, detail oriented, and effective verbal/written communicator

• Test protocol and report development

• Lab Equipment Proficiency (Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, Signal Generators, etc.)

• Office Software Proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Engineering Software Proficiency preferred (Cadence OrCAD, Cadence PCB Editor, Matlab, MathCAD, MiniTab)

Physical Requirements (if applicable):  

• This position may require business travel.

Additional Information:

Compensation & Benefits: For U.S.-based positions only, the annual base salary range for this role is $162,500.00 - $243,725.00 This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation.
