Full Job Description
Role Summary

The Principal Architect will provide overall direction and leadership of the development of architectural designs, construction documents and specifications, and may serve as the Architect of Record for assigned projects. This position will be responsible for providing strategic direction, operational excellence and relationship management with all stakeholders for projects where JE Dunn provides professional design services, driving the contracting and business development in order to meet or exceed all design targets. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.

Key Role Responsibilities - Core

ARCHITECTURE LEADERSHIP FAMILY - CORE

Strategic:
  • Key contributor in defining and guiding the strategic plan in partnership with departmental and regional leaders.
  • Active in the community including conference attendance/speaking engagements and/or active memberships in associations (such as board posts and committee memberships).
  • Develops strategies for growth of the business.

Operational:
  • Responsible for the delivery of architectural design services, the development of culture and the execution of processes.
  • Responsible for professional service delivery, and will have project responsibilities including client management, project leadership, and technical guidance.
  • Oversees client relations, including project team performance and overall client satisfaction.
  • Interfaces and advises client, manages staff and reviews technical documents to meet the needs of the project.
  • Provides oversight through all aspects of a project's lifecycle from planning, programming, design, construction documentation, contract administration through to project close-out.

Marketing/Business Development:
  • Partners closely with Marketing, Client Solutions, and Operations to develop new opportunities and build relationships.
  • Increases JE Dunn's industry profile through regular interaction with potential clients and industry associates as well as participating in industry organizations.
  • Develops and/or assists in defining overall team project pursuit plan and win strategy, including strategic proposal development to achieve business development and financial goals.
  • Prepares conceptual designs as required for project pursuit submissions and client development.

Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Collaborates with regional leadership on furthering design build opportunities in collaboration with project teams, clients and owners.
  • Encourages cooperation, sharing of skills and workload between employees and across project teams.
  • Serves as a leader to inspire our team, represent design excellence, and reinforce our national brand.
  • Strong seller doer capable of generating work and creating long-term relationships and delivering longterm value to clients.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or related field (Required)
  • Degree from a NAAB accredited architecture program (Preferred)
  • Master's degree in architecture (Preferred)


Experience

  • 12+ years architectural experience (Preferred)
  • 5+ years people management (Preferred)
  • Cross-functional knowledge of the key engineering disciplines (Architectural, Civil, Structural, MEP) and relevant trades
  • General construction experience (Preferred)
  • Previous experience in proposal and client management with proven history in leading project pursuits and winning proposals (Preferred)


Working Environment
  • Valid and unrestricted drivers license required
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • May require extensive periods of travel
  • Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet project needs
  • May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold)
  • Assignment location may include project sites and/or in the office
  • Frequent activity: Sitting, Viewing Computer Screen
  • Occasional activity: Standing, Walking, Bending, Climbing, Reaching above Shoulder, Pushing, Pulling
