Pricing Manager (Pricing Department) - Firmwide

Job Summary

We are currently looking for a dynamic and experienced Pricing Manager to join the Firmwide Pricing Department. This position supports the Firm's revenues and profitability by facilitating pricing strategies and proposals through consultation and collaboration with the Firm's internal stakeholders, financial analyses and modeling, budgeting, competitive research, project management and use of metrics. The candidate will have a strong work ethic, be collaborative, professional, adaptable, positive and interested in their work. This is an individual contributor role and will not be directly supervising others.

Work Environment

As part of the Firm-wide Pricing team, this role can be located in any of the Canadian cities that Fasken has offices (Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Calgary, Tsuut'ina Nations, Vancouver, Surrey). This role will be primarily remote with occasional hybrid requirements as per business needs for onsite office collaboration and support. The successful candidate may be located away from the regional office, but understands there may be occasional travel to the office required.

Standard core hours of work are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. This role is not overtime eligible and some flexibility will be required within the Firm's core business hours to meet the needs of the department and other region's time zones.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the creation of the Firm's overall pricing strategy, by implementing client-focused profitable pricing models, while laying the foundation for a value based pricing framework.
  • Asses critical information with respect to the cost drivers by matter type in each practice area and build statistical models to predict the cost of a matter type.
  • Work with the Director, Pricing and cross-functionally to define packages for different matter types and establish fixed prices for all package levels.
  • Develop Fixed prices for all matter types by region upon synthesizing data on hours taken for matter types; Maintain and update Fixed prices for all regions every year by conducting periodic pricing/profit audits to identify areas for improvement.
  • Manage the fixed price setting process for all practice areas upon reviewing updates to the algorithm and changes in the product/service value proposition. Set discount rates upon a competitive analysis of prices.
  • Support partners & marketing as it pertains to pricing arrangements, preparation of RFP responses with respect to price and value.
  • Model the impact on contribution on proposed fee arrangements and run sensitivity analysis given changes to hours, leverage, realization, fixed price amounts, risk levels etc.
  • Problem solve and recommend changes to pricing models, staffing and fees as a result of advance analytics for client(s) portfolio, clearly defining the matter types, and identifying opportunities of profit growth, portfolio expansion and potential issues and risks.


Required Knowledge and Experience

  • MBA Degree with a focus on finance/business/math discipline is required; however, an equivalent combination of education, lived experience, and professional expertise will also be considered.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years' experience in an analytical role, preferably within a professional services firm/organization.
  • Bilingualism (English & French) is a strong asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of legal and/or professional services alternative fee arrangements and costing of services.
  • Theoretical knowledge of statistical analysis (regression, correlation, probabilities) and predictive modelling (and ability to apply).
  • Strong financial modeling skills, detail oriented, and demonstrated initiative to take on new challenges.
  • Highly skilled in Excel and creation of complex spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools in building PowerPoints for senior executives.
  • Knowledge of legal services financial and management reporting systems such as SAP Business Objects and Elite.

Pour ce faire, la personne retenue devra collaborer étroitement avec les parties prenantes internes et mettre à profit ses compétences en analyse et en modélisation financières, en budgétisation, en veille concurrentielle, en gestion de projets et en suivi d'indicateurs de performance. Celle-ci devra également faire preuve d'une solide éthique professionnelle et d'une bonne capacité d'adaptation et de collaboration, agir de façon professionnelle, avoir une attitude positive et démontrer de l'intérêt pour son travail. Il s'agit d'un poste de contributeur individuel qui ne comprendra pas la supervision directe d'autres personnes.

Environnement de travail

Rattaché à l'équipe de l'établissement des prix à l'échelle du cabinet, ce rôle peut être exercé dans n'importe quel bureau canadien de Fasken (Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal, Québec, Calgary, Tsuut'ina, Vancouver et Surrey). Il est offert principalement en télétravail et peut nécessiter, à l'occasion, une présence au bureau selon les besoins opérationnels, notamment pour la collaboration et le soutien sur place. Principales responsabilités

  • Contribuer à l'élaboration de la stratégie globale de tarification du cabinet en mettant en œuvre des modèles de tarification rentables et axés sur les clients, tout en jetant les bases d'un cadre de facturation fondé sur la valeur.
  • Évaluer les principaux facteurs de coøts propres aux différents types de mandats dans chaque domaine de pratique et élaborer des modèles statistiques afin de prédire les coøts de ces mandats.
  • Travailler avec le directeur de la tarification et les équipes concernées afin de définir des forfaits adaptés aux différents types de mandats et d'établir les honoraires forfaitaires applicables à chaque niveau de service.
  • Élaborer les honoraires forfaitaires pour les différents types de mandats dans chaque région en analysant les données relatives aux heures consacrées à ces mandats; et maintenir et mettre à jour annuell
