Job Description:
RUC is seeking a senior architect, engineer, or design professional with 10+ years of
experience to serve as our in-house design and technical lead. This person will manage our thirdparty architects, engineers, and consultants and act as RUC's owner-side technical
representative and first layer of defense throughout the design process.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage and hold architects, engineers, and consultants accountable to design
milestones, deliverables, quality, and schedule.
• Review drawings and specifications at major design milestones for completeness,
coordination, constructability, code compliance, and RUC standards.
• Identify design errors, omissions, conflicts, and scope gaps before they impact estimating
or construction.
• Ensure designs are practical, cost-conscious, and not over-designed; challenge
unnecessary complexity and specifications.
• Lead/support value engineering and design optimization with Development and
Preconstruction.
• Coordinate architectural, structural, MEP, civil, life-safety, landscape, and specialty
consultants.
• Support Development with conceptual design, planning, entitlement, and technical
design decisions.
• Support Preconstruction/Estimating with constructability reviews, budgeting, VE, bid
documents, and design-related scope issues.
• Support Operations/Construction with design-related RFIs, consultant coordination,
and technical issues.
• Own and manage RUC's design standards, including development, implementation,
maintenance, and continuous improvement of architectural, engineering, material,
product, and construction standards.
• Establish and maintain RUC standard details, specifications, assemblies, materials,
finishes, building systems, and design guidelines across projects.
• Ensure third-party design teams consistently follow RUC design standards and
approved project requirements.
• Evaluate new products, systems, and design approaches and recommend changes to RUC
standards where appropriate.
• Maintain consistency across the RUC portfolio while allowing for project-specific
requirements.
• Assist with selection, evaluation, and performance management of design consultants.
• Provide senior leadership with clear recommendations regarding design, cost, schedule,
code, standards, and consultant performance.
