Position SummaryThe Model Ready Data Team builds the modeling data service behind EnCompass, Yes Energy's power system simulation engine. We produce and maintain the model-ready datasets for North American power systems (generators, load, fuels, transmission, emissions, reserves, and more) that form the baseline for customers' modeling ecosystems, along with the assumptions documentation that explains every input. We bridge Yes Energy's Data Platform and Modeling disciplines by translating power system data and historical reports into modeling inputs and supporting the development of proprietary nodal LMP forecasts.
As a Power Market Data & Modeling Analyst you will build, validate, and automate those datasets while developing expertise in one or more power markets.
Position Details- Salary Range: $105,000-$115,000
- Location: Hybrid - Boulder, CO; Seattle, WA; or Boston (Newton), MA
- Full-time
- Reporting to: Director, Model Ready Data
- Travel requirements: Occasional travel as needed for client or team collaboration
Primary Responsibilities- Data Model Development: Build, test, and analyze data models for North American power systems, delivered as model-ready datasets for EnCompass
- Model Updates: Run regular model-update cycles: refresh generation fleets, load forecasts, fuel prices, interchanges, emissions, reserves, and transmission constraints from internal, public, and commercial sources
- Technical Optimization: Develop and maintain Python-based automation that ensures data quality from source to product
- Validation & Benchmarking: Validate models by running simulations, benchmarking results against historical market outcomes, and diagnosing discrepancies
- Automation: Automate recurring analytics & modeling workflows to increase operational efficiency across departments
- Documentation: Maintain customer-facing assumptions documentation for each market/region we model
- Market & Client Expertise: Become an expert in one or more power markets; support clients with case diagnosis and expert advice on power market modeling
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and research new data sources, tools, and modeling structures to improve model quality and sophistication
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, data science, or a similar quantitative field
- Understanding of North American power market fundamentals and energy economics
- Strong technical execution and proven experience using Python (or similar) for data manipulation and automation
- Comfort working with large, messy tabular data (CSV, Excel, SQL) and checking it against its source
- A knack for good software and the habits that produce it: version control, code review, testing, and readable code
- Excellent analytical skills in response to open-ended questions
- Ability to work efficiently on multiple, non-overlapping tasks with minimal supervision
- Confidence in presenting technical content to both colleagues and clients
