Description

The Position:

Liberty Mutual Investments is seeking a Portfolio Product Owner to own the strategy, roadmap, and business outcomes of LMI's Enterprise Data Management (EDM) product. EDM masters the security, price, issuer, FX, reference, and cash-flow data that LMI's  investment, accounting, operations, risk, and regulatory processes depend on.

This is one of the portfolio product owner roles within Financial Products, part of Global Investment Systems (GIS), and reports to the Managing Director, Head of Financial Products. The successful candidate is the single accountable owner for the EDM portfolio: its strategy, roadmap, squad delivery, and stakeholder governance — working alongside the portfolio owners for Accounting, Operations, CECL, Automation & Productivity, and Finance Transformation.

The role sits between Financial Products, Operational Strategy and Delivery (OS&D), Investment Accounting, the LMI Data Office, Technology, and platform vendors. OS&D is a primary day-to-day partner: EDM's mastering, pricing, and exception workflows are executed and consumed there, so the Product Owner is expected to work in close and continuous partnership with OS&D on operational priorities, data-quality expectations, incident response, and the reduction of manual processing. The Product Owner sets priorities in collaboration with OS&D and Technology, leads cross-functional delivery,

and is accountable for EDM providing trusted, timely, accessible data. Current roadmap themes include security master performance, derivatives, Private Credit, pricing automation, NAIC and rating data, platform upgrades, regression testing, and reduction of manual processing.

This is an AI-first role. The successful candidate uses approved generative AI as a normal part of their own work and leads its responsible adoption across EDM product management, data operations, exception handling, support, and stakeholder self-service.

Responsibilities:

 Product strategy and roadmap

  • Own the EDM product vision, multi-year strategy, and a transparent roadmap aligned to investment, accounting, operational, regulatory, and technology priorities.
  • Prioritize using business value, risk, regulatory importance, data quality, operational impact, cost, and complexity; make trade-offs visible to stakeholders.
  • Balance strategic transformation, platform modernization, regulatory commitments, production stability, technical debt, and run-the-business demand.
  • Develop business cases for material EDM investments and capability changes.
  • Maintain clear boundaries between EDM product ownership and the enterprise MDM mandate, and route gaps requiring broader solutions to an accountable owner.

Data domain ownership and product health

  • Own business outcomes for security master, price master, securities of interest, reference, issuer, FX, and cash-flow capabilities.
  • Set and monitor measurable expectations for data quality, completeness, timeliness, availability, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead improvements to mastering, pricing, exception management, reconciliation, workflow, and downstream distribution, with sustained reduction in manual processing.
  • Partner with data owners and stewards on critical data elements, lineage, controls, and decision rights.
  • With Technology, OS&D, and vendors, maintain EDM stability, performance, and continuity; lead business prioritization during incidents and drive root causes to permanent remediation rather than repeated manual intervention.
  • Maintain heightened readiness and documented coverage arrangements around month-end, quarter-end, investment-accounting close, and regulatory reporting.

Backlog and delivery

  • Act as the single accountable owner for portfolio intake and prioritization, coordinating the supporting product owners, business analysts, and data stewards assigned to EDM.
  • Own the prioritized product backlog; translate outcomes into epics, features, and stories with clear problem statements, scope, dependencies, controls, acceptance criteria, and success measures.
  • Lead and participate actively in PI planning, sprint planning, refinement, reviews, retrospectives, release planning, and demos; intervene early when commitments, dependencies, or capacity put outcomes at risk.
  • Manage dependencies across EDM, SimCorp Dimension, Aladdin, Snowflake, WSO, investment-accounting processes, and downstream reporting and analytics.
  • Validate that delivered capability solves the intended business need and achieves measurable adoption and value.

Stakeholder Leadership and governance

  • Serve as the Financial Products point of accountability for EDM strategy, prioritization, and business outcomes.
  • Build trusted relationships across OS&D, Investment Accounting, Public Markets, Private Assets, Finance, Risk, Compliance, the Data Office, and Technology; influence senior stakeholders without formal reporting authority.
  • Lead the EDM Product Advisory Council with decision-ready agendas covering product health, roadmap progress, risks, and trade-offs, and a transparent record of decisions, owners, and due dates.
  • Define escalation paths and decision rights across Financial Products, Technology, OS&D, the Data Office, and vendors; escalate material risks with context, options, and a recommendation.

AI-enabled ways of working

  • Use approved generative AI daily for strategy, research, prioritization, scenario analysis, story and acceptance-criteria drafting, test scenarios, and executive materials — retaining personal accountability for the accuracy and quality of every output.
  • Critically evaluate AI output and validate facts, assumptions, and calculations before use; protect confidential, holdings, and restricted data by working only in approved tools and environments.
  • Own an AI enablement roadmap for EDM spanning data onboarding, mastering, data-quality monitoring, exception management, reconciliation support, natural-language data access, incident documentation, production-support query deflection, test and regression development, and downstream self-service.
  • Define measurable objectives per initiative and run controlled experiments before scaling; determine what belongs in EDM, an enterprise capability, a vendor roadmap, or improved ways of working, avoiding point solutions that add fragmentation or technical debt.
  • Ensure AI use meets LMI information security, privacy, legal, model risk, and Responsible AI requirements, with defined human review, monitoring, and traceability. AI recommendations must not become unreviewed production decisions.
  • Build reusable prompts, skills, and knowledge assets, and help team members adopt AI in ways that improve quality rather than volume.

Vendor management and modernization

  • Represent LMI's product priorities in vendor roadmap, service, architecture, and escalation discussions; hold vendors accountable for commitments, quality, transparency, and sustainable remediation.
  • Evaluate vendor advisory councils, early-access programs, and development partnerships, and ensure vendor-led innovation, including AI capability, meets LMI governance and risk requirements.
  • Lead product direction for EDM modernization and business-process redesign — performance, scalability, maintainability, user workflow, data model, architectural simplification, and standardized access patterns — tied to measurable business outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Information Systems, Data Management, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years in investment management, investment operations, investment accounting, enterprise data management, or financial technology, including demonstrated product ownership of a complex platform, data product, or enterprise capability.
  • Gresham Opus EDM (Markit EDM and S&P Global EDM), GoldenSource, BNY Data & Analytics (Eagle), Rimes, or a comparable enterprise data-management platform.
  • Strong command of security master, price master, reference data, data quality, data lineage, exception management, and downstream data consumption.
  • Track record translating complex business needs into roadmaps, requirements, and measurable outcomes, and leading cross-functional delivery across Product, Technology, OS&D or an equivalent investment-operations function, and Data.
  • Strong stakeholder management, facilitation, written communication, and executive presentation skills; sound decision-making and judgment in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Agile delivery, PI planning, backlog management, and cross-product dependency management.
  • Hands-on use of generative AI to improve product management, analysis, or operational workflows, with the judgment to identify unsupported conclusions and factual errors in AI output and the discipline to apply human review and data protection.
  • Experience managing vendors or strategic technology partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SimCorp Dimension, Aladdin, Snowflake, WSO, eFront, or related investment platforms.
  • Insurance asset management or another highly regulated financial-services environment; public and private asset classes; investment-accounting and NAIC data requirements.
  • Retrieval-augmented generation, natural-language data access, prompt design, or agentic workflow concepts; experience introducing AI capability within a governed enterprise environment.
