Moran Towing Corporation (www.morantug.com) has an opportunity available for a Port Engineer for Moran Port Arthur LNG. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position reporting to the General Manager.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Port Engineer's number one job is to ensure our vessels remain operational, reliable and ready to support the mission. Assist the Captain and Engineers by working alongside them to keep the fleet in motion. The Port Engineer serves as shoreside engineering representative supporting Moran's Port Arthur LNG (PALNG) operations and reports directly to the General Manager. The Port Engineer is responsible for the safe, reliable, and cost-effective maintenance and engineering of assigned tugboats, shoreside equipment, and supporting assets. This position provides direct technical support to vessel Captains and Engineers and is accountable for vessel readiness, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair coordination, regulatory compliance, spare-parts management, vendor performance, and planned maintenance activities.

The Port Engineer works closely with the General Manager, vessel crews, Regional and Corporate Engineering, PALNG stakeholders, shipyards, and outside vendors to maximize vessel availability and minimize operational downtime. The position requires a high degree of initiative, accountability, technical expertise, communication, and organization. The position is 100% in person (no remote). Normal hours are the division's business hours Monday through Friday; however, the incumbent is expected to be available when required during off-hours, weekends, and holidays. Some travel is required.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, but are not limited, to the following:

Fleet Readiness and Reliability
• Maintains continuous awareness of the mechanical condition and operational readiness of assigned vessels and support assets.
• Continually monitors electronic preventative maintenance system (Helm) for all assets and ensures tasks are completed and recorded
• Identifies emerging equipment issues before they result in operational downtime and develops repair, maintenance, and contingency plans in coordination with the General Manager and vessel crews.
• Responds to vessel casualties and maintenance needs as required to restore safe, reliable operations and minimize service interruptions.
• Communicates vessel status, significant deficiencies, anticipated downtime, repair plans, and operational risks to the General Manager in a timely manner.
• Supports preparing vessels for drydock, including continual monitoring and recordkeeping of items to be placed on the drydock list, and assisting with vessel going to, and returning from, the shipyard.

Manage Local Engineering Activities
• Ensures the safety of personnel and equipment is a priority before, during, and after all maintenance and repair work.
• Reviews vessel engineering reports, maintenance status, deficiencies, and recurring equipment issues.
• Implements, monitors, and supports the Preventive Maintenance Plan (PMP) and ensures required maintenance is completed and properly documented.
• Plans, coordinates, manages, and when appropriate assists with vessel repairs and troubleshooting.
• Maintains detailed working knowledge of assigned vessel systems and serves as the local subject matter expert for engineering matters.
• Recommends capital improvement projects, reliability improvements, and major repair needs to the General Manager.
• Ensures compliance with applicable USCG, ABS/class, company Safety Management System (SMS), and other regulatory requirements.
• Purchases and controls engineering spares, consumables, tools, and critical replacement parts while maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
• Supports the development, training, qualification, and technical proficiency of vessel Engineers.
• Identifies and implements practical cost-saving measures without compromising safety, reliability, regulatory compliance, or operational readiness.
• Maintains applicable engineering records, corporate databases, maintenance documentation, and equipment histories.

Dry Docking, Overhauls, and Capital Projects
• Coordinates with Regional and Corporate Engineering on major repairs, modifications, equipment overhauls, and capital projects.
• Assists in developing repair specifications, work scopes, budgets, schedules, and technical information for vessel dry dockings and major maintenance periods.
• Participates in shipyard planning and execution, monitors work quality and progress, and communicates schedule or cost concerns to the General Manager and Corporate Engineering.
• Verifies completed repairs and modifications meet operational, regulatory, class, and company requirements before return to service.

Maintain Shoreside Engineering Facilities and Support Equipment
• Ensures preventive maintenance is performed on shoreside engineering and support equipment and that applicable inspections and regulatory requirements are satisfied.
• Maintains engineering work areas and facilities in a safe, orderly condition and addresses fire, environmental, housekeeping, and other hazards.
• Maintains and tracks tools, parts, consumables, and support-equipment inventory as required.
• Ensures readiness and safe operation of applicable support equipment, including forklifts, cranes, vehicles, pumps, and other maintenance equipment.

Manage Local Vendor Relationships
• Selects and utilizes approved vendors in accordance with company requirements and applicable vetting criteria.
• Coordinates vendor access, scheduling, work scopes, and safe ingress/egress to vessels and facilities.
• Monitors vendor safety, workmanship, quality control, schedule performance, and SMS compliance.
• Reviews vendor quotes and invoices for accuracy, scope completion, and cost reasonableness before approval.
• Develops dependable local vendor resources capable of supporting urgent repairs and planned maintenance.

Supports Vessel Engineering Development
• Identify and resolve maintenance needs, assist onboard trouble shooting and repairs as needed
• Works with vessel Captains and Engineers to identify training needs, improve maintenance practices, and strengthen engineering accountability.
• Promotes a culture of safety, ownership, communication, reliability, and continuous improvement.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Advanced marine engineering expertise demonstrated by a bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or equivalent relevant experience; five or more years of relevant marine engineering experience in a licensed capacity is preferred.
• Current or previous USCG engineering license or equivalent marine engineering credentials/experience appropriate to the assigned fleet.
• Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and meet applicable USCG physical requirements.
• Valid driver's license.
• Strong working knowledge of marine diesel propulsion, auxiliary machinery, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, cooling, and related vessel systems.
• Working knowledge of USCG regulations, towing-vessel requirements, Safety Management Systems, and applicable ABS/class requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex equipment problems, plan repairs, manage contractors, and coordinate multiple maintenance priorities.
• Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office programs and the ability to learn company maintenance and purchasing systems.
• Demonstrated sound judgment, responsibility, flexibility, initiative, organization, communication, and leadership.
• Ability to travel when required, including air travel, and to respond outside normal business hours when operationally necessary.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience supporting harbor tug, ship-assist, towing, or comparable commercial marine operations.
• Experience with vessel dry dockings, major overhauls, shipyard periods, and capital improvement projects.
• Experience supervising vessel Engineers, vendors, or maintenance personnel.
• Experience in high-reliability marine operations supporting LNG, petrochemical, terminal, or other critical infrastructure environments.
• Shipyard Competent Person, gas detection, confined-space, forklift/crane, or other applicable safety and equipment training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Sit or stand for extended periods of time.
• Frequently reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and crawl as required for vessel and equipment inspections.
• Frequently walk and navigate stairs, ladders, gangways, machinery spaces, docks, and uneven surfaces.
• Use hand and power tools requiring a range of physical motions.
• Occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
• Work aboard vessels and around operating machinery in marine and industrial environments.
• Speak, hear, and see sufficiently to safely perform the essential functions of the position, including color vision where required.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Internal: General Manager, Captains, vessel Engineers and crews, Operations personnel, Regional Engineering, Corporate Engineering, Safety, Purchasing, and other Moran departments.
External: PALNG stakeholders, shipyards, equipment manufacturers, service technicians, contractors, vendors, regulatory agencies, and classification representatives, as applicable.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS

PAY TRANSPARENCY:

Moran Towing Corporation offers generous benefits, opportunities for professional growth, and competitive salaries based on geographic location. Our target pay range for the Port Engineerposition is $110,000 -$135,000 per year. This pay range represents Moran's commitment to pay transparency and is a reasonable estimate of possible compensation for this role at the time of posting. The final salary for this role will be determined based on careful consideration of a variety of factors, such as the candidate's exact location, experience, and expertise related to the qualifications.
